I ask my friends what horror/slasher films they been watching and all I get is "none, really". I ask what people's plans are and I get "none, really". No one decorates their house anymore, let alone put a carved pumpkin outside their door. Things like Fright Fest and haunted houses aren't as popular as they once were. You're lucky to have five kids show up at your door step for candy when the night actually comes. The kids who do show up, put no creativity or fun into their costumes at all. Kudos to my Mom though for still putting up some skeletons and carved pumpkins outside the house and a Michael Myers door poster up to keep the dream alive. Of course, no one else on her block has done anything.

I just remember when I was younger, the streets were packed with children and more people got into the whole Halloween season. Now it's all about Christmas as soon as the first leaf falls. We've done our best to to take this fun, care-free holiday and completely kill it so we can start stressing over Christmas early. This blows.

Agreed. Now it's just chicks who get a reason to dress slutty, which isn't a bad thing.

It's not made up. Halloween was better. I'm not one of those "back in the day" people. I'm fully aware that people mistake things being better back when they were younger because youth is good. This is different. Pay your respects to this dead day.

Where I live people be crazy with the Halloween decorations -- there are 3 houses with smoke machines going. Several do live shows for trick or treaters on Halloween. A couple of years ago one guy had an actual casket and he laid in it to scare the kids. I don't like the pressure.

I agree with H-Gay, Halloween used to be a whole lot cooler. It's still pretty good in my 'hood, though. Kids have fun, some houses get all crazy and the adults get together to drink and be merry.

Pretty much, my nephew still gets psyched up for the candy as he is a complete sugar addict, but thats it. They have 2 Pumpkins sitting on a bench. No effort into carving, decorating, etc.

i'm surprised target doesn't have a halloween black friday event planned...halloween has been completely passed over for the christmas holidays.

i agree with HG that the spirit of this holiday seems to be dwindling.

i hope that because it's on a friday the parents let their kids trick or treat a little later. it's so much more fun for a kid to trick or treat when the sun goes down.

Yeah, I used to buy a 6 pack of king sized snickers, and I'd give them to the best costumes I saw. But the little fuckers would bitch... why does he get a king size and I get a fun size, it's because you're wearing a baseball jersey and he's got on full makeup and a great costume. Little fuckers told me I was being unfair in my distribution of free goods. Pricks. Last year we had all of like 6 trick or treaters. Course it was shitty weather but damn. And the fuckers that come the next day? Eat me.

I'm just lazy. I'll but the variety pack of candy because it looks nice and takes the least amount of effort. I spent $60 on candy a couple of weeks ago. That's about as high class as I can get.


I haven't eaten any of the candy either. This is probably the first time that has happened. Last year I ate a $13 variety bag of chocolate candy bars in less than a week.

We buy twix, snickers, m&ms, peanut butter cups, taffy, starbursts and skittles. They can take 3 pieces. It's more "organized" for the littler ones and the older ones can't stay out as late. Weather seems worse than when I was younger but maybe I was just a kid and didn't care. People here decorate. I hate Halloween, freaks me out.

Decorations are way up. I don't remember a lot of decorating for any non Xmas holidays when we were kids.

You were a kid and didn't care. Halloween '94 was a miserable thunderstorm that limited our trick-or-treating to, like, hanging out at my uncle's house. Wasn't there some infamously miserable Packers-Bears Monday Night Football game that night, too?

It wasn't snowing, but it was like 40 degrees & the rain was blowing sideways. It was so bad out, I think we gave any kid that actually trick or treated that night 1/2 a lb of candy. Then watching the farce that was the retirement ceremony, we wondered if that at their ages would standing out there kill them.

IIRC the Packers beat them by 40.
