It's a fun little tune. "Everlong" is good. I can't think of any other Foo Fighters songs I like. I either dislike the rest or tolerate them between better songs. Just such an unremarkable band coasting on Dave Grohl's old job and this tired bullshit about "saving rock and roll."

Grohl is the best and funniest person I've ever seen at stage banter. Consistently every time.

Oh and every single song is awesome except for Big Me.

Plus he single handedly broke up a local girl group that some of you people inexplicably think is better than Sleater-Kinney.
Which of course isn't possible.

I heard their "Chicago" song on XRT last night. I think it's called "Something from Nothing". It didn't do anything for me. I also hate Buddy Guy and Naked Raygun. And IKEA furniture.

Fair enough. I still think you might enjoy the Chicago episode of the show.

It was an interesting and fairly well done episode on the Chicago music scene primarily focusing on
its blues and punk histories. JORR, I'd agree with DB that you may really like the punk angle of
the program. Not sure if it was interesting because of the Chicago focus or what but it was a pretty
interesting hour of TV.

Grohl is very good at banter. Scott Lucas was better back when he would get shitfaced during Local H performances, but that doesn't really happen anymore.

Coming from someone who thinks the band Can has the best drummer in rock music, I'll defer to your expertise...

That's the thing. People dig what they dig. I'm not going to shit on what someone likes or roll my eyes because someone loves Beck or The Pumpkins. Because I don't like it, doesn't make it "bad".

You can go to the "what are you listening to now" thread and shit on everything listed there, if you wanted to.

I'm a noob here and completely on the outside, but I enjoy reading a lot of the points of view on here and I'm really not interested in some goofy e-battle over what someone chooses to think about music that resonates with me...

Yeah. No.

Actually, I'm pretty sure he's correct. I'm surprised you like these guys so much, spanky. I see them as frat boy rock with a hipster sheen applied by Grohl. I can actually see Grohl thinking, "Hey, if I bring the guy from the Germs along it will give us even more cool cred!" And hey, I don't begrudge Pat Smear getting paid at all, but I really doubt this music and this band is what he was dreaming about playing when he was smoking bowls with Darby Crash. The Foo Fighters are just Thrid Eye Blind with Dave Grohl instead of pop hooks.

Pat Smear has gotten really fat.

And I just learned he is straight. I always thought he loved the cock.

He seemed old and tired at times during the show. He loves him some champagne...

I think he's been married for a long time.

Have you seen that movie about the Germs? It's not too great, but better than the CBGB movie.

I understand, I was just fucking with you. I mean, I’m a huge Rush fan and I like what I like. I don’t really care about genre, ethos, back story, etc. All that matters is that I have an emotional connection with the music.

I’m not a huge Foo fan, but I really like many of their songs and would love to see them in concert. That said, I do find JORR’s Grohl rants pretty damn entertaining.

I don't think anybody said they were "bad." Overrated and overloved, but I don't recall seeing anybody in this thread say that the Foo Fighters are bad.

You called them "probably the greatest American band, ever," which isn't even remotely close to being true. You can like what you like, but when you declare that a band is 'the greatest ever' be prepared to take some flack for that.

Everyone knows that Florida Georgia Line is the greatest American band, ever.

I'd start with the Velvet Underground, CCR, the Sonics, the White Stripes, Cheap Trick, the Replacements, the Flaming Lips, Articles of Faith, the Pixies, Mission of Burma, and Florida Georgia Line. I can keep going if you want.

CCR is the only band that might be close in that list. Cheap Trick is on the periphery, in my opinion. I'll have to listen to the Florida Georgia line to have an opinion on that...

My cursory youtube search leads me to believe that band is a power pop country act like many others on the radio all the time.

It's OK to be a snob about the music you like as long as you don't speak in absolutes. If I wasn't clear, it's my opinion that The Foos are the best American rock band ever. I'm not stating it as fact or something that's legitimately quantifiable...
