Hall and Oates are better too.

G.E. Smith is a better guitarist than Grohl.

If given a choice, I'll take Foo Fighters over Green Day/Weezer/Pearl Jam of the pantheon of alt-rock American bands that have been around for 20+ years.

Pearl Jam is the best band of those four and even they're not that good, and they too are just a surrogate for Nirvana.

Oy vey.
I'll just say this.
I own all the FF records, most of Pearl Jam's, about 5 Weezer records, and Green Day's live albun for American Idiot,
because my wife liked it at the time.
I listen to way more FF than any of those bands, and I've seen them all except GD.
First time I saw FF was at some Q101 thing, I think, and they sucked.
I saw PJ at Aragon with Pumpkins and RHCP, and the Yield show at Alpine Valley.
Saw Placebo open for Weezer at the Riv, I think.
Great show.
Green Day pretty much blows, although when I was in high school,
we played a cover of Longview that people seemed to like.
Pearl Jam is the most "organic" band, but FF have better songs.

Well yeah, because "Longview" is far better than anything Dave Grohl has ever written.

What is it you find appealing about Foo Fighters? I just don't really see anything there. They're not awful. They just.... ahh. As much as I hate Joe Satriani, I understand why people like him, think he's great. I just don't get it with Foo Fighters. They're as ordinary as ordinary could be.

I saw a band play with W-Z calling themselves LeeLoo Dallas Multipass that had songs way better than anything I've ever heard from Dave Grohl. And that's just one unknown band on a random Friday night. http://www.reverbnation.com/leeloodallasmultipass

My friend Samantha has a group of trained cats that tour that tour the country playing instruments. They might be better than the Foo FIghters. (I think the chicken has left the group.)

In truth I like the Foo Fighters. I think they would have been a well-regarded two-album post-Nirvana band. Everything non-Foo Fighters Dave Grohl (whose self-appointed curatorship of Classic Rock irks me but is not relevant to this discussion) has worked on since then has been better then the Foo Fighters, but I think Foo Fighters pays the bills. They churn out pretty predictable, unremarkable rock and over 20ish years their stock kind of rises and dips based on the relative wealth or scarcity of good original rock bands active at the time. When the White Stripes or Green Day or The Strokes or whoever were doing something resonating, the Foo Fighters were nowhere in the forefront. They would be the best band on a 5 band bill on a Tuesday night.

Foo Fighters are too "glossy" for some people

Probot

All better than Foo Fighters

I'm an idiot when it comes to music but Foo Fighters always kind of sounded like a really good band that was sanitized so much that anything edgy about it was removed. It's like if that guy from Sweden who writes all the pop songs decided he wanted to do some rock and roll.

This is remarkably on point. They're soft-serve rock.

They write great songs. Grohl is a likeable and capable frontman. Great guitar tones.
One of the best rhythm sections in rock, and they boast 3 of my personal favorite drummers (Grohl, William Goldstein from SDRE, and Taylor Hawkins).
I guess I'll just leave it at that. I don't see what's NOT to like.
And that Wrigley line-up is fucking sick.

Thought you might get a kick out of some of the punk references to Chicago and old pictures.

At 0:35 my guy Tommy Faulkner from the Sonars makes an appearance with Negative Element followed by a candid of a very young Anthony Illarde.

CT has a lot of respect in the industry and RN makes a mighty fine New Haven style pizza (and great beer)

I've seen Cheap Trick in a lot of strange venues. Opening for Rush at the Aragon. At the Pecatonica Fairgrounds. At the DuQuoin State Fair. I'm sure I've seen then at some other weird places I can't remember right now.

Hey, I was there too! The lawn/parking lot scene was like the movie Dazed and Confused for a young Furious.

They still put on a really great show. Zander’s voice has aged so well and they pull out some deep cuts when they aren’t the opening act.
