Golden Corral is about the only non-Chinese buffet I can stomach. Ponderosa used to be the go to but RIP. Except for the one in Gary on 20.

If the one still in Gary wasnt right next several truck stops, adult bookstores and strip clubs, I would be more interested in dining there. I'm more worried about the diseases in the mac and cheese than ebola.

Breakfast Buffet is about all I will do these days, hard to screw up breakfast....after that, I would rather have limited very good food, than unlimited slop.

Yeah with all of that around you might welcome ebola compared to the other things you might get.

You would think so, but the brunch buffet at the casino we went to on Sunday might have been the worst buffet I've ever been to...biscuits were like hockey pucks, the corned beef hash had no corned beef, and the muffins used in the eggs benedict were nearly at hard as the biscuits.

That's not even getting into the non breakfast items they fucked up royally.

I would. Then again I tip just about everyone.

I will always leave a couple of bucks for getting my sodas.

(to be fair, you possibly make more in a month or so than I do in a year)

I'm not anti-tipping, except where it's presumed, at which point it's not a tip, it's a fee. Fuck fees. Put that on a shirt and send me a check.

Also, for breakfast anyway, I ask for literally nothing from them ... I get my own food and drinks, I'm not there for conversation, so at that point it's basically like a homeless person roaming the aisles bugging me in broken English every few minutes.

You realize that I am not Dr. Ken or NSJ? I just have a habit of leaving a tip unless the service is beyond horrible.

I pick up often from the Salt and pepper....I tip them pretty well....usually a salad, soup or sandwich, so it's $12, $15....I tip at least $5....I do it because i go back often and when i call, my food is made in a hurry, when there is a crowd they get my orders, etc.

Too Insure Promptness and not get spit on or in!

Red Apple on Milwaukee Avenue north of Devon. It's a Polish buffet and owned/operated by an attentive family so the food isn't disgusting.

I'm made to understand you do fairly better than average. It wasn't a knock in any way, just putting into perspective how far under the average I am rather than be portrayed as some asswipe miser ... asswipe, sure ... miser, I haven't had a chance to find out yet. :D

And again, I was referring specifically to breakfast at GC where there's literally nothing to do for me ... they literally bring me nothing. They might take away a dish, but if they don't then some busboy will later and nobody's tipping them so I'd say at the very least the transitive property applies.

A family owned establishment would be an exception and I have been told this by some guys who I work with. Of course these are the same guys who dragged me to Polish/Vodka fest

The thing about going to a polish buffet is that if you go to a sit down place in the hood they are most likely going to give you more than you can eat for a reasonable price so there is no reason to go to the buffet unless you are living large

This thread got me thinking that a whole generation of sports radio listeners will never know who Mike Murphy was.

The one time I had Browns in my life, the beef sandwich was cold. I almost vomited.

Yeah, there is never any reason to go to Brown's. Never. Its horrible food. Also, the one on 14 in Palatine is filled with very, very old people who make loud slurping noises and frequently choke on chicken bones. And may be choking their chicken as well.
