Mike Brown was an amazing player but he couldn't stay healthy enough to be on the field.

Mike Brown was a poet-warrior and philosopher-king.

Don't know why I thought he went to Stanford. Did we have a safety that went to Stanford?

Maybe they can tell me what Trestman was talking about today. I didn't understand 1 thing he said about Cutler.

Count former Chicago Bears safety Mike Brown among those who felt coach Marc Trestman's team gave up during a 55-14 rout Sunday at the hands of the Green Bay Packers.

Brown, who played nine injury-marred seasons (2000-2008) for the Bears, said Tuesday he watched the game and was dismayed by the team's apparent lack of fight during the debacle.

"If you get punched in the mouth and you taste blood, some people, that turns them on, that makes them more feisty," Brown told "The Spiegel and Mannelly Show" on WSCR-AM (670). "It seems like this team, when they get punched in the mouth and they taste blood, they fold. And that's a really disturbing thing when you're playing football.

"Football is a game where you have to have a lot of emotions, it's a controlled rage ... but it seems like this team doesn't have that kind of mentality. It seems like when things go bad, it's not like, 'Oh we're going to fix it,' it's like, 'Here we go again.'

"And that's a disturbing thing to see, especially when it plays out on TV and you can hear ... I mean, it's not just fans, these are ex-players talking about how sad it was. It's people who know the game that, like, on TV, you could tell that they quit. And that hurts, that hurts."

Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb was quoted after the game as saying, “We knew that if we got up early on them, they may lay down on us. ... You could tell that they kind of laid down a little bit.’’

Once a team gets that reputation, Brown said, it can dog them the rest of the season.

This is Bill Cartwright as coach era bad. Players have to play, but this is on Trestman.

Mike Brown could play safety on one leg at his current age and be better than Chris Conte.
