He should have retired with the Braves.

He should have just written "I have a guaranteed contract to be the field manager of the Chicago Cubs for another two years. They can pay me to do that job or pay me to sit at home. Assigning other tasks to me that are not in my job description will require additional money. I assume the Cubs will be more than happy to pay this bribe as no one wants to consider the ugly possibility of ethnicity being included as an issue in this discussion. ARRIBA OSEZNO!"

If Renteria stays with the organization, he has no dignity. They have to pay him either way. Why stay in a job where they put you at the Martin desk?

WOW! That's excellent! Best thing I've read on here in sometime. I like Renteria but playing the corporate stooge got him where exactly? He should show up at the Maddon Presser wearing a Train Conductor cap, because they railroaded his ass!

Why would he wear a conductor hat in that scenario?

Wouldnt they be the Conductors?

He should accept the third base coaches position, and then drive a railroad spike into the ground on opening day.

Are they honestly suggesting 3rd base coach?

I have avoided the talk, but any position in the club would not be immediately UNDER Maddon

THAT would be a slap in the face.

If that unlikely scenario unfolded he'd be the head of midwestern scouting or some shit

They didn't give a position. Third base coach is the funniest demotion though.

Its the same reason many players dont come back for less money, even when they are willing to take less money for another team.

Madden has Davey Martinez....I dont know his contract status, but I know they have the same agent, so that could be connected...and if you dont know the other garbage that comes with DM, go back and do your Cub fan homework.

However, it would be pretty cool to see Ricky stay on...and maybe a first....even if he does get more money. The guy is a baseball lifer and you know he wants to be part of this.

BS. He would take ANY field manager job offered to him rather than being a cuckhold of the Cubs.

Odds are he wont stay....not sure I can even find an example of a coach who ever stayed in this situation in any sport. Might be a first ever.
