rpb will be fine. He is compensated well enough to handle my responses.

I signed up for this board over six years ago to be a Chicago Sports Fan Message Board Poster.

Notwithstanding all Rick's badgering and quotes, I continue to focus my posts and responses on achieving the goal we established from the start: getting Mac Jurko, and Harry back on the radio.

does anyone think Ricky is a better manager than Madden? Please step forward and identify yourself.

Based on first season records? Renteria wins.

none of this would matter if they had just kept Sveum an extra year. If Maddon were hired, would they be currently be paying THREE guys to be field manager (Sveum, Renteria and Maddon)?

What do you mean by "better"? Will Maddon win a World Series with a team that Renteria can't win one with? Has Maddon won a World Series?

I'm pretty confident in saying this without looking it up. Theo would be the first GM in any American pro sports league that got to hire 3 managers in 4 years.

REALLY SMART GMs don't have to do that.

Jimmy: that's not an answer really. Do you think he's a better manager personally?
Will Maddon win a WS with a team that Renteria can't win with? I believe that, yes. I didn't like Renteria one bit.
And yes, they should have kept Dale another year. THAT was ridiculous.

When did Dan's Cubs ball licking start? Was is after Theo was hired? Was it when Dan realized that the Cubs will be joining the CBS broadcast family & possibly The Score?

I remember it starting about the time Julian Green was hired.

He was always a Theo guy but recognized the ineptitude of the organization. Once Green was hired, I believe the term really smart people was coined. I think I even had a long and detailed rant on the subject

It is just odd how big of a Cubs fan boy Berns has become.

Come on, it's not that odd. Theo represents the baseball executive ubermensch to Bernstein. It's all tied to Epstein. It's just a nice bonus that he is also a tribesman.

No doubt. He seems to have turned on fellow tribesman Trestman though...

Dan sees himself in Theo -- a young Jewish guy who favors (or appears to) analytics and advanced metrics over "old-fashioned" scouting -- so a victory for Theo is, in Dan's mind, a victory for himself.

Your persecution complex is large. Take lessons from posters like rpb who can actually handle things like opposing viewpoints.

The man loves the Cubs. That's a fact. I'm not sure why the pretense about being a Sox fan. But I was never sure why North pretended to be a Sox fan either.

Impressed Dan's love of all things management got him to deflect blame from the McClaskey's and Ted Phillips

I think Lil Danny put it in hyper-drive after he saw Jason Parks get a new gig out of falling all over himself complimenting the Cubs.

One comment today. Yes, Bernstein is right that they don't have the players, but coaching is important to develop players. None of the draft picks have gotten better under Trestman, except Fuller, who was good to begin with.

So, yes, coaching to help player development is important in this equation, which Danny fails to mention. Another reason Tresshead has got to go. No one is being developed.

Don't have the players? Wrong. A good coach would have this team at 6-2 right now. 5-3 at worst.

Didn't Danny boy say before training camp that this was a Super Bowl contender? Yelled at callers that told him otherwise. He knew who the players were when he said that, didn't he?
