Actually, my guy's guy.

His only other proclamation was that the Cubs would draft Kris Bryant (at a time when most assumed they'd draft one of the two pitchers)

If this happens, Ill promote him to officially my guy

At least you're saying it before it actually happens. Terry's guy will tell him afterwards.

This seems like one of the easiest predictions ever. Not sure I would lend it much credence if it comes true. Reminds me of the Kevin Love/Andrew Wiggins stuff behind unnecessarily delayed for a few weeks.

The funny part is that every major market team has basically said they are not in the market. You know he isnt going to some small market team to battle again with no bank roll.

Theo has said nothing, this is just a matter of working out some sticky details and money at this point.

Exactly. Just get it over with. I hate these "worst kept secret" sports stories. Waste of everybody's collective time.

Texted my Bears guy the other day and he told me Tucker will be let go after this season. Take that for whatever it's worth.

Exactly. This tells you all you need to know. Genunielly feel bad for Ricky. Really uncomfortable situation that he's handled with class thus far. I actually thought he had a pretty good year as a 1st time manager all things considered.

At this point though, Maddon is a known commodity with a substantial enough sample size to be confident of a floor compentency in terms of handling a team, which many regard to be one of the best in baseball. You can't hold onto Ricky for the hopes that he MAY someday get to that level.

Just got off the phone with my Spurs guy. He said look for Popovich to watch the players minutes carefully this year.

They would have to pay him what $5-6 million+. I think Scioscia tops out around $5MM & Bochy has to be moving above that level.

I can't see him taking the risk to his reputation/legacy for less.

Why can't the Cubs just fire people. Didn't they learn from Hendry?

So the Cubs pretty obviously tampered here, unless we are to believe that these negotiations started once he opted out and then just got lucky that an incredibly willing team with a manager was willing to negotiate pretty much immediately.

I wonder if Ryan Dempster was allowed to listen to the negotiations quietly in the corner?

Add this latest PR disaster to about 3-5 others in Theo's 3rd year. He is a paper lion!

There was the Dempster embarrassment, plus a few other screw-ups that I'm sure others on here can recall.

Every guy can identify with getting the shaft in the workplace. This also will put Maddon on the shitlist with every other current baseball manager (I would assume.) These things just are not done like this. Totally classless.

When's the last time a manager, widely considered the best if not top 3 in baseball, became available? There is no precendence to say that things 'are not done like this' and by most accounts, something like 15 teams kicked the tires and there aren't going to be that many job openings. The fact that it looks like he wants to come Chicago puts the spotlight on the Cubs. Would have been the same situation with any other team. Any claims of tampering are originating from Maddon's agent who really needs to shut his yap.

Its pretty clear it happened here. Whatever, I'm sure most teams across all sports do it with players and managers. But that doesn't mean Cubs fans should just put their head in the sand over it.

Also, Maddon would be Theo's 3rd manager for the Cubs. Ha. Ha.

Literally nothing offends me.

If the Cubs had someone not connected to the Cubs float the idea of joining the Cubs to Maddon, it's not even tampering. So it's not obvious. He may not even join the Cubs, which means it's not obvious. And they may not have contacted him before he opted out, so it's not obvious.

Honest question...I've been out-of-the-sports-news-loop lately, especially about this topic. I've heard bits and pieces...including Maddon's agent on the radio explaining why he put the clause in the contract, and what he did (informed Maddon) once the GM left. So, my question is....where is the tampering? If Maddon's agent put the clause in the contract and advised his client of his ability to activate said clause upon GM leaving...then where does the tampering start? Is that the Cubs then started talking to Maddon ? Did Cubs contact him? Did Cubs advise him of the clause? If WHEN Maddon found out about this clause and he tested the market interest and Cubs responded positively...is that tampering?

Again...I am not up to speed on what has been reported...so I'm looking for an explanation to your statement that it is pretty clear it happened here. How is it clear? What happened? I don't care if it did...I am curious where the accusations stem from. Thanks!

No, there cannot be any ambiguity when our lord and savior Theo is involved. He CLEARLY thinks he's above the rules and was texting, and sexting, with Maddon for weeks before he opted out. There is no other way to expalin Maddon's intereste in the Cubs, which has only been hinted at by his agent.
