Did Renteria get a fair shake?
No, he was fucked by an evil employer without being given a chance. 50%  50%  [ 15 ]
Yes, when you have a chance to get an all-time great like Joe Maddon honor and morality go out the window. 50%  50%  [ 15 ]

Renteria will go home to his pseudo-mansion and be just fine.

This isn't like laying off a bunch of minimum wage workers. "Business is business" is a fine motto for professional sports, where minimum wage is typically half a million dollars.

If this were true, than every other team in baseball would be foolish not to be negotiating with Maddon while still employing a manager

I wish everyone would get this straight in their heads: the dishonor comes in openly negotiating with a person at same time the position is currently filled. It is humiliating for Renteria and professionally stunting. It is undignified for the organization. It even taints Maddon a bit.

I have not seen this "open negotiating" that you speak of.

Theo & the Cubs have said nothing. There is no "open negotiating". Perhaps you are confusing that with media reporting?

After 1 year?

i know this is going back a ways, but back in george steinbrenner's yankees heyday in the late 70's billy martin either quit or resigned mid-season, i can't remember, and was replaced by Bob Lemon. The story is a little foggy, but i believe it occurred that Bob Sheppard, the yankees famous PA announcer, actually announced at an old-timers game just DAYS after lemon took over that he was getting replaced the following season by billy martin, right before he introduced billy for dramatic effect to a sold-out yankee stadium crowd. i think the story goes that they forgot to tell lemon about it, so needless to say he was a bit surprised. he went on to win the world series as a lame duck manager and get replaced the next year, but he handled it with a lot of class and actually went on to manage the yankees again a few years later.

We're the poll choices supposed to be a joke?

There is nothing remotely immoral about firing a guy and hiring someone better.

Did he get a fair shake? No.

I think he did enough to warrant getting another shot with a different team (unlike Sveum). I would hope the Cubs would acknowledge the fact that he did nothing to deserve being fired (if it were to materialize).

So far they've done nothing. What's immoral about that?

Think of it in terms of CFSMB. Many make light of a certain poster for doing something analogous to what the Cubs are doing.

I must have missed the news conference where they announced a contract offer?

Do you honestly think Maddon isn't the opening day manager come April?

Just like Halliburton and Goldman Sachs, you sometimes have to get a little dirty to reach the top.

The Cubs haven't announced anything. We're speculating.
People are calling the Cubs finks for something they haven't done yet.

So you're saying there was an offer accepted and Renteria has been fired?
It seems like the Cubs are being respectful so far of Renteria.

I assume all of this is trolling/fucking around. If JORR or good dolphin seriously think the Cubs are more immoral than any other pro sports team, their naivety can't be helped.

But this is pretty much beyond speculation at this point. There's no way Maddon isn't the next Cubs manager.

As respectful as OKC was when he hid his new board from you instead of coming to Lakemoor Fest and pissing in your face while saying "NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH, YOU CAN'T JOIN!"

Why? They've said nothing at all. They've never said he was fired. They never said they were chasing Maddon. So far Renteria is the opening day manager.
