Its pretty clear it happened here. Whatever, I'm sure most teams across all sports do it with players and managers. But that doesn't mean Cubs fans should just put their head in the sand over it.

Also, Maddon would be Theo's 3rd manager for the Cubs. Ha. Ha.
Cubs fans getting all offended over Sox fans stating the obvious is hilarious.

Literally nothing offends me.

If the Cubs had someone not connected to the Cubs float the idea of joining the Cubs to Maddon, it's not even tampering. .

I don't believe you are correct on that unless by "not connected" you mean some guy bumping into him on the street and randomly telling him "you should join the Cubs".

Tell your Bears guy that's not soon enough.

 True. Was hoping they'd fire Tucker after the game and make him fly coach back to O'Hare. On Southwest. In a middle seat.

No, there cannot be any ambiguity when our lord and savior Theo is involved. He CLEARLY thinks he's above the rules and was texting, and sexting, with Maddon for weeks before he opted out. There is no other way to expalin Maddon's intereste in the Cubs, which has only been hinted at by his agent.

Worse than that. Theo set up the whole Friedman-to-LA thing just to get Maddon.

The moment he opted out it was reported that the Cubs were the favorite and the reports are that they are already discussing the terms. This was a done deal before we even knew about it.

You're welcome.

Honest question...I've been out-of-the-sports-news-loop lately, especially about this topic. I've heard bits and pieces...including Maddon's agent on the radio explaining why he put the clause in the contract, and what he did (informed Maddon) once the GM left. So, my question is....where is the tampering? If Maddon's agent put the clause in the contract and advised his client of his ability to activate said clause upon GM leaving...then where does the tampering start? Is that the Cubs then started talking to Maddon ? Did Cubs contact him? Did Cubs advise him of the clause? If WHEN Maddon found out about this clause and he tested the market interest and Cubs responded positively...is that tampering?

Again...I am not up to speed on what has been reported...so I'm looking for an explanation to your statement that it is pretty clear it happened here. How is it clear? What happened? I don't care if it did...I am curious where the accusations stem from. Thanks!

Tampering begins only if the Cubs contacted him, or vice versa, while he was still under contract to the Rays.

The most recent accusation of tampering I can think of was over the summer Jones told Peterson on the telephone that he would like for him to play for the Vikings.

Which clearly happened because everyone in baseball seemed to know he was going to the Cubs even as they were "surprised" by the news.

I believe the Bears won a tampering case when someone tried to sign Briggs

The Rays were even saying they would consider tampering charges against the Cubs if Maddon goes there pretty much right from the start too. They seemed to know right from the start too.

You know what would be really great? If Ricketts was bringing Maddon in to replace TheoandJed instead of Renteria.

It would seem very difficult to prove tampering charges. Anyone with an idea on how often a tampering charge is formaly filed and how successful they are? Outside of texts/emails, a lot of he said she said.

It will be hard to prove a tampering charge. Another Theo market inefficiency!

You complain about Trestman being nice and rip into Theo for being mean. I honestly believe if the Cubs ever win the world series, you are going to be mad because you have nothing to be mad about anymore.

Theo is trying to get the best manager in baseball and your still not happy.

Not really. He's a free agent.

But did you see that moron Jake Peavy fantasizing about pitching for the Cubs when he should be worried about beating the Royals?

This whole affair has put a tarnish on the sterling reputation of Sox Subdivision. We hope to bounce back strong when the Hot Stove gets fired up.

Well I just read it in my feed.

I have no idea who she is. She might just be somebody else that doesn't know how to spell Madden.

Where is all the Maddon love coming from? He's a decent manager, but it seems that because the Cubs are interested, all of a sudden he is "the best" or "definitely top 3". The Rays sucked this year (4 more wins than Ricky and the Cubs). They've had one of the top GMs during Maddon's entire tenure. What makes him better than Francona, Scoscia, Girardi, Bochy, Showalter, etc.?

The thing I remember most about Maddon is Davey Johnson calling him a "weird wimp."

Because Cubs fans always love the next best thing. How many saviors have they had since the mid 00's? Prior, Wood, Felix Pie, Rich Hill, Babe Fox, Hee Shop Choi (to the Cubs credit at least he was turned into Derrek Lee), Josh Vitters, Brett Jackson, Corey Patterson. More recently its been Javier Baez and Kris Bryant. So now its Joe Maddon. The Cubs will always have somebody waiting in the wings who is the supposed savior and will lead the team into the promised land.

Great point Frank. Cubs fans are the only ones who get excited about prospects. Such an astute observation. You teach me so much about the Cubs.

Except that is not at all what I said. However its not at all surprising that you either don't understand it, or would twist it around in a feeble attempt to put down somebody else. You're nothing if not consistent, Kirko.
