Did Renteria get a fair shake?

After 1 year?

Grady Little was two years and he won 90+ games in both years

Girardi was one year

The Marlins didn't fire Girardi because someone better came along, they fired Girardi because he clowned Jeffrey Loria for heckling the umpires from the front row. He won Manager of the Year and still got fired for insubordination. They replaced him with some idiot, as I recall.

And Grady Little got fired for leaving Martinez in that game.

I'd have no problem with the Cubs firing Renteria anyway. It just makes Theo seem stupid. And chasing Maddon while leaving Renteria dangling just makes the Cubs brass more unlikable than they already were. But hey, Go, rich guys, go! Plow under the rooftops, abuse your employees, just win that damn World Series. Or is it multiple World Series?

Why would or should Theo care if a Sox fan thinks he is unlikeable.

People in baseball know the game. This affects nothing going forward, even if it ends up happening.

 Theo's about 3/4 of the way to getting run out of town, whether you realize it yet or not. The Cubs have some serious PR problems. They manifest themselves constantly. You can read dolphin's posts on the Cubs continual inelegance if you need to catch up.

As for Maddon, I'm going to wait for Kap to hold up his jersey. Then I'll know it's true.

I guess I don't realize it either. Cubs management has been inelegant, stupid, and mean for several years now, but I don't really think many people care, certainly not enough to run Theo out of town.

Apparently, Cub fans think Epstein is just going to be allowed to lose indefinitely. It couldn't be that they're assuming a World Series. After all, RPB assures me that most Cub fans aren't doing that. It's put up or shut up time. If they aren't in the playoffs next year, that seat is going to get real hot.

Oh, I don't think he's near getting run out because he's an asshole. It's because he's losing. Now he needs to turn it around fast.

Even I think that is a little silly at this point, JoeOrr.

Though I do think if the Cubs do not at least contend for a WC spot in 2015, this voice will start to get louder and louder.

Why is it so hard for Cubs fans to say "Yeah, sucks for Renteria, but we are getting someone better and sometimes you have to do things like this"?

I don't even think the Cubs are making a mistake here if the get Maddon. It's just dumb to ignore what is actually happening.

That would be about 3/4, wouldn't it, Frank? I'm not sure if most people are familiar with Dayton Moore and "The Process" in Kansas City, but the entire idea of "The Process" became a complete joke. Some people might think this fluky World Series is vindication, but I don't. They'll be back to third or fourth place next season. And the Cubs aren't the Royals. This is a big market team. I don't expect the same patience for "The Plan" as there was for "The Process".

He won't be run out of town in a year.

Oh, I think they definitely are. In as much as managers actually mean so little, the potential downside to making this move is far, far greater than any upside. Maddon has to win a World Series. A couple playoff appearances aren't going to do it. With Maddon, the rebuild is over. It's on now. They've taken away the luxury of allowing these young guys to grow. Oh, by the way, did I mention Maddon has never won a World Series? And if Maddon fails, where do the Cubs go next? Begging Tony LaRussa? Back to Girardi?

Your grasp of the word "about" is nearly as good as your grasp of the word "literal".

You want an extra 10% on that 3/4? I'll give you that. You're still wrong. 15%? You're still gonna be wrong.

Your grasp of math is about as good as your ability to recall the past.

Why though? He is the one who has put a team on the field that has lost 286 games the last 3 years?

For reference, the Royals had lost 257 games the three seasons previous to this.

It seems like a lot of people think this is just how business goes in sports, or because he is highly paid that it makes it ok.

So your answer to the question was "No"?

90% No and 10% Yes.

No - one year opportunity sucks.
Yes - He won't be blamed in 3 years when this all fails

One year.

Coach was fired and then way after they were negotiating with another coach.

I would bet my bottom dollar that Theo will be extended an additional 5 years before 2015 is over. I would also bet that he will not see a winning season for the duration of his first contract.
