No no no. Bruce talked to Nero. It's not a done deal. There are other offers. it might not even happen at all. Even though Heyman will probably end up being right. And this isn't fair to Ricky!!

Why do they even bother having Professor Flakey on?

I think Hub is doing a nice job interviewing people on this rather than doing Bernsie leading questions about what he thinks.

The Cubs have been pleased with Chris Bosio and just hired a new hitting coach. If Maddon wants his own guys, I wonder if the Cubs release them or not.

Theo is more than satisfied w/ Bosio and is certain to be a non-negotiable part of any deal. On top of that, it's seemingly unlikely that Joe would be able to bring anyone still under contract w/ the Rays over here anyway, so that would also make it seem unlikely that the apple cart would be upset any further by significantly proliferating the coaching staff with all sorts of his guys, at least right away.

Interesting (?) that not only are the Cubs on the verge of adding Maddon, but the Ricketts outfit is close to selling a 20% non-controlling stake in the team for about $300 million, ostensibly to help offset the ongoing renovations.

Strange things are afoot at the Circle K.

David Price is a free agent next year. Tigers have some leftover sheckles after Scherzer rejected them. I wonder if he hits the open market.

I don't know if Price has an affinity for Maddon. Even if Cubs snag say Lester and/or Martin he should be in serious play if available.

Isn't Lester a Cub already?

Cubs have already started hedging when they lose out b/c Ricketts doesn't want to pay fair market value by whispering to the media he might be too expensive. Yes, these whispers were delivered deliberately and professionally through the proper backchannels.

Yeah, some player acquisitions. That is worth getting excited about.

I'll believe it when I see it though.

If they can have an offseason of Lester, Masterson and Russell I think we could possibly talk Wild Card.

Manager: Maddon
SP: Arrieta/Lester/Hendricks/Masterson/Wood (Or Doubront, Straily, Jokisch, Turner, etc)

Coughlan, LF
Castro, SS
Rizzo, 1B
Bryant, 3B
Soler, RF
Russell, C
Baez, 2B
Alcantara, CF
Pitcher

Pretty nice.

Russell Martin doesn't deserve first name status Kwood

From what I understand Lester doesn't make a move without the Jakemeister

The Cubs aren't making the playoffs next year and that shouldn't be the expectation. They need 1 more year of development.

They certainly can. Why else get Maddon?

For developmental purposes and 2016 and beyond.

The afternoon show told me yesterday the Cubs should fire any coach Maddon doesn't want (I agree with) and should pay any price to get the guys he wants that are under contract to other teams (laughable).

Not really. They don't have to spend $300mil on Scherzerzerrrr, but they can make due enough to put a real MLB pitching rotation out there.

Nas, the honeymoon is over. The Cubs must contend in 2015. They have the players at (or ready for) MLB level, they have the manager, they have some coaches, they have their mascot...Its time. No more tank wins. No excuses for them not to compete in 2015.
