I don't care how much they are paying him to go away. He should smile and ask if he can say goodbye at a press conference. When He gets to the podium,he should then stand up for himself and rip Theo and Crane Kenney And the Ricketts family new assholes...PERIOD....EXCLAMATION POINT

Truth.

He doesn't need to ask for the opportunity. EVERYONE wants to know his take. All he has to do is call the press conference himself.

sounds good to me. He should get his 15 minutes of fame before he fades into oblivion with Terry Bevington.

The Cubs may be inept, but they haven't reached the Bears' level of giving mics to people with diarrhea of the mouth.

It would be the first time the guy said anything worth listening to.

Probably not the best career move to light the building on fire before you leave and then look for a new job.

People get fired all the time if the company finds someone better. The outrage is hysterical.

How often do the post that person's job and interview candidates one cubicle away while the person still is sitting at his desk?

Nope. Turnover is pretty high in the industry. Greener grass and what not. Had a guy quit today and it turns out there's been an ad running for a couple weeks. Maybe they were thinking about letting him go.

For the record... I didn't miss the joke. Just answering the question.

He should take all of his Cubs money and buy a nice condo in downtown Minneapolis and then get paid a couple million/year to manage the Twins.

I mean, he's THAT GOOD of a candidate because he did such a good job with the Cubs. And nice guy with feelings, that's gotta be worth another $500k/yr.

Yes....discretion is advised. He still may have a good Managerial career. But the Cubs chose a guy with a great, proven track record that they felt they couldn't pass on. If he leaves in a classy manner, it only improves his stock.

Even Steve is suggesting discretion.

Discretion is for pussies!

He needs to say how he feels, otherwise he will be laughed at.

Better to have some people laughing, while you still laugh your way to the bank, than stand tall and unemployed.

That's fine for the next 2 years. But I think he's planning on living a bunch more. Better to have that money and lots more as well.

The funny thing is that one week ago right now you'd be mad at Sox fans for creating a "Renteria should be fired" thread. Today, he deserved it and being rich means nothing that ever happens to you is tough to deal with.

I can't speak for everyone but I would concede that if all the circumstances in this situation were changed, my opinion might be different.

Yep. If good dolphin has posted a thread called "Renteria not good enough for the Cubs" last week, the Cubs fans would have attacked Robin Ventura.

The best part is advanced metrics say Maddon and his vast knowledge of advanced metrics are meaningless. Too funny.

lie

but as you said, employees in your line of work are fungible. They don't really hold a position.

I am not certain of this but I believe that if he gets another managerial job, the Cubs only have to pay the amount the current salary is beneath his Cubs salary.

An Epstein quote:

"In handling it, Ricky showed what a remarkable human being he is,'' Epstein said. "He told us that he understood, that he appreciated the opportunity and the way we handled it and there were no hard feelings. He wished us well. He handled it a lot better than I would have.''

So even Theo is shocked what a meek wallflower his former manager is.
