Of course. The NFL has been doing these games since 2007 and they still have no immediate plans for a team. If it continues to have success, and then a team in London has success the EPL would be dumb to not give strong consideration to a team in New York. You may be right it doesn't work politically but people said the NFL in London wouldn't work either.

despite the fact that I think it will, it certainly hasn't yet.

the premiership is content to ignore the States other than friendly's. Why not a premiership team in Germany or France then?

Bless their heart for their efforts, but a permanent team across the pond will not happen. If it does, it'll be a money pit and eventually fail.

They aren't ignoring it though. There are articles talking about how they are focusing on them. That is why they do all those tours and are talking about playing games here that count.

If the NFL is successful in establishing a team in London, and possibly even other cities, no reason to think that other leagues wouldn't look at Germany and France too. This assumes the NFL succeeds. That changes everything for every other league.

This has been one "because they're fruit, apples and oranges are the same" discussion. BRick, you claim that the MLS can't get any traction in the U.S. but an EPL team here would get traction? The EFL failed but this time will succeed just because? Having teams play extended road schedules will somehow make it more attractive both here and abroad despite the distance and schedule putting them at a competitive disadvantage?

The NFL doesn't have a team in L.A., so the idea of seriously locating one in London is short term pretty, long term stupid. If the team isn't competitive interest will surely and quickly wane, both here and there. Putting together several euro teams would be a repeat of the past, and like the past it would be novel at first and then inferior long term. The NFL wants to grow their brand, playing in London is their method, just as they stream the NFL in China for free. But that is the real extent of growth, as anything like having actual teams play out of this hemisphere involves an imbalance in travel, and suspect fan attention.

As for the EPL remotely considering playing league matches in New York (not the "friendlies" which are just exhibitions), how would the U.S. team deal with relegation? In fact, it is relegation that keeps the EPL English.

I'm not saying they could put one there today. The NFL couldn't put a team in London today either.

A new team in the English Pyramid would at best start in the Combined Counties League. I'm sure Chersey Town, Badshot Lea, and Frimley Green would love to fly across the pond once a year.

Ok. I concede. The EPL won't ever consider putting a team here because the EPL has rules that make it difficult.

Their loss. My gain.

I'm sure they'd make an exception for America. You know, a little American exceptionalism.

They're so big I spelled the name wrong, Chertsey town. I must have been thinking of Shirseys. The high attendance this year for them is 125, they could bring the team and every fan over on the same flight. If they won 8 consecutive titles they'd make the premier league.

North America nominally has a pyramid, too, but no promotion/relegation, and expansion teams can get dropped into MLS without having to work their way up.

"Frimley Green" sounds like a place a hack comedian would invent for a bit about Hugh Grant being a queer.

Ok, so basically the EPL couldn't ever have an American team because of their own rules. This is great news.
