Did Renteria get a fair shake?
No, he was fucked by an evil employer without being given a chance. 50%  50%  [ 15 ]
Yes, when you have a chance to get an all-time great like Joe Maddon honor and morality go out the window. 50%  50%  [ 15 ]

Egg in the face, Sox fans. Who didn't see that coming?

Didn't happen.

Sox didnt go after Leyland while Bevington was under contract?

No, Sox didn't issue a press release saying Bevington was a great manager a week before they tried to dump him. No, Sox didn't plan to keep Bevington if they couldn't get Leyland. Bevington was a complete buffoon who was going to be fired no matter what. He was horrible with the media, which is really a manager's most critical job, and he called for a guy from the pen that wasn't there. You really don't see the difference? The problem isn't with firing Renteria. Managers get fired all the time. The problem is that he was good enough to manage the team until the front office had a different whim.

You're right. It's much stranger than any other CSFMB discussion.

Are we really photoshopping members' pictures here? I don't want any fucking tears when it comes around the other way. Just to go on the record. I remember Frank crying like a baby when his pic was shopped. I'm not crying. Just pointing out there are a lot of easily accessible photos of posters and I have plenty of time on my hands.

But they did keep Bevington after not getting Leyland

Its the same thing. Schueller said he did a good job and he won 85 games.

And you're now changing your story. The focus earlier was not going after someone while a guy was under contract. Now that its been pointed out the Sox did the exact same thing, you're trying to change it by acting like Renteria was awesome.

He will argue to the death that a similar sports-related situation is NOT the same thing. I've tried.

But he thinks armed robbery with a gun is the same, as well as somebody else having sex with your wife.

If Sox fans cant admit the Bevington-Leyland situation was the same thing they've been crying about for two weeks, they arent being honest

Bevington wasn't under contract. He re-signed after the Sox couldn't get Leyland.

Apparently, you're confusing me with good dolphin or Boilermaker Rick. I don't care about the Cubs tampering. I just think they fucked a guy who was doing a good job for them.

Next on Theo's to-do list is to withhold injury information when trading a pitcher with a career ending arm injury.

He's probably more likely to bring in the guy with the career ending arm injury.

Another FAIL from ol' Kirkwood.

Mike Sirotka passed his physical with the Blue Jays. Had he not, the trade would not have happened. And very nice of you to leave out the fact that David Wells pitched all of 16 games for the White Sox.

What the Sox did to the Blue Jays that year is the exact same thing as kicking a puppy or blowing up a space shuttle.

If you can't see that then I'm sorry, you just won't get it.

Terry Bevington remained in baseball limbo for one more day Monday, but may have his fate decided Tuesday.
Then again, he may have to keep waiting.
White Sox General Manager Ron Schueler returned Monday to Chicago from scouting in Florida but didn't meet with Bevington to discuss his future as Sox manager.

Schueler said he would meet Tuesday with Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and that Bevington was only one of the topics to be discussed.
"We'll be talking about a lot of things," Schueler said, declining to elaborate.
As for Bevington, Schueler said they have no planned meeting, but he hoped "to run into him later in the day."
The season has been over for more than a week and Bevington's option for '97 still hasn't been picked up. Philadelphia, Boston and Houston already have fired their managers.
The longer the wait, the more it appears as though Bevington's job is safe. He has said all along he plans to be back and Reinsdorf has said Bevington shouldn't be "insulted" they tried to hire Jim Leyland to take his spot.

It's just business. The funny thing about business is that spanky doesn't get to sit on high (as much as he would love to) and decide what business is.

I actually worked for a guy who was indicted for selling substandard parts for the space shuttle that could have caused it to blow up. At his proffer he was heard to state, "It's just business."

Yep. In one scenario 8 scientists die tragically, in the other somebody gets $4M to go out and get paid more by somebody else. To coach a kids game.
Almost carbon-copy scenarios.

I feel bad as this is the first time someone has ever photoshopped another member's photo on this message board. The very first time. And to make it even more egregious, it was a photo that the person in the photo posted on this very message board himself.

How terrible.

I wish White Sox fans would stop the crying. Boo Hoo! Your team sucks and your manager is a putz, so lets rip the Cubs for going out and getting one of the top managers in baseball.

Theo is trying to build a winning team at ALL COST. After 100+ years of losing, I am onboard with firing a no-named manager who was here as a "filler" until the team was ready to contend. Madden is the top-tier coach they wanted for the team and they got him. GOOD JOB THEO!!!!

Whitesox fans should be more concerned with what Hahn is doing then Theo.

so, to sum up...Renteria getting paid to not manage after Cubs hire their crush.

Bevington...didn't get paid after Sox tried to hire their crushes.

I'd take Renteria's lot in life.
