It will be interesting to see how his "I don't really want to ever be at the ballpark unless I have to be" stance will work if they aren't winning at a place with expectations.

He ended the conference by buying the media a shot and a drink.

He came from Tropicana Field and he is moving to Wrigley Field. Can you blame him for not wanting to be at those parks?

I picture it like Gene Hackman in Unforgiven.

And those of you that rode with me in Tampa, you get one drink for that, too. Now, hold it, now that's two after that it's coming out of your own pocket. Hear me, Theo?

By the looks of him, he is more likely to be asking somebody if they would eat the moon if it were made of barbeque spare ribs.

It's a simple question! Would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs? I know I would. Then I'd wash it down with a tall, cool Budweiser.

I love that skit.

No matter what you think of the hire, that was a pretty cool thing to do.

That's a good point, though. I don't remember hearing a Les question in there anywhere.

I predict Maddon's first Polish Italian fusion restaurant opens by March 2016.

Well he is a damn good manager too.

You literally can't know that to be true. That's why all manager talk is pointless bullshit.

Have you ever heard or read one single person say that Joe Maddon is a lousy Manager? He is universally praised as a great manager.

I'm gonna go out on a limb & say that Maddon is better than Sveum & Quadde!

I'm also going to guess that the people involved in and around Major League Baseball know more about what makes a manager good or bad than MattInTheCrown.

Does that include Ned Yost, Ricky Renteria, and Hawk Harrelson or are they the only morons "around Major League Baseball"?

Except that article doesn't say that Maddon is a bad manager.

Quote:
One of the coolest moments at the Maddon press conference was also one I haven’t seen reported anywhere. When Maddon was talking about how he, Theo, and Jed met in a Pensacola RV park to discuss a contract, and that it was a beautiful moment, Theo quipped “We’ll always have Pensacola”.
The media quoted that, but didn’t mention why it’s so cool. It’s so cool because he’s taking from Casablanca, where Rick says “We’ll always have Paris” to Ingrid Bergman’s character. That line was written by Theo’s grandfather, Philip Epstein, who - along with his twin brother, Julius - was the writer of Casablanca. So Theo quoted from his grandfather. From Casablanca. So cool!

I wasn't aware grammar was part of the criteria. The fact is that the article I found is NOT universal praise for Joe Maddon.
