But it comes as no surprise that the religious among us mock those who have a deep connection with animals. After all, they have no problem believing in an omnipotent being that "loves" them and leaves no proof of his existence. It only stands to reason that they would roll their eyes at anyone who sees love in the eyes of creatures who have toughed it out with us over centuries of hardship and helped us to survive as a species. The former is OBVIOUSLY more "real" and fulfilling.

I believe Berkowitz had similar thoughts.

I didn't own a dog until my 1st house. She was like family and she lived 19.5 years. There is no way you can not get attached to a dog. No other animal compares to a dog. They truly are man's best friend. They are amazing animals who can save lives (IE: Bomb & drug sniffers,Cancer detection and hundreds of other things)

I don't "own" my wife, but we claim our pets as family.

The first notion that ever gave a certain painter reason to consider the positive benefits of interracial marriage.

Thats fine. However I have cable (in HD!), played over 20 round of golf this spring/summer, and I am not dragged to northwest Indiana for any holidays, let alone all of the major ones. You probably shouldn't throw stones when its pretty clear that somebody's wife owns him....

This trend is not your friend.

Down to 10 times next year, with 4 extra Saturdays of shopping/antiquing.

Its probably 30. I lost count, travelled a bit more on the weekends this year, and kinda gave up on the season in August due my poor play. Point is I was out on the course on Memorial Day weekend and July 4th/5th, not being dragged around Indiana with family.

Dog guy here. Not anti-cat but they can be annoying with how they jump everywhere and walk over anything. Cats seem very popular with this newer generation of men.

Man and dog have a special relationship, going back tens of thousands of years, before agriculture, back to when we were hunter-gatherers. We, as humans, made dogs what they are. It's a very distinct and unique relationship in the animal kingdom. I often think we have a collective responsibility as a species for these creatures.

That being said, they are animals. I don't dress mine up or treat it like a person.

Our cats are awesome, but deep down I am a dog person. My parents still have 'our' family dog, my wife's family has a dog. We would love to have a dog, but we work long hours and its fair to have a dog if he is going to be left alone for 10-12 hours at least 3-4 days a week. If/When our job situations change, we will get a dog.

My cats rule and we talk to them all the time. Of course, I'm a complete weirdo and Bernstein is right about me.

Dogs are awesome, but they are way too much work and need more attention/interaction.

I would try and rescue my cats from a fire...

I haven't had a cat or dog in my house since 2006. Between my cat of 8 years passing away and having the ex take the dog and her cat...I had enough of pet loss.

However, the wife has been bugging me for an animal for 3 years. We now have a 14.5 week old lab puppy in our house.
Her name is Lily Corgan.

It's a lot of added work and stress. But, she's worth it so far. And the wife is happy.

I can't decide if the dog not being a Corgi is a relief or a downer.

Also, if you'd just written the last part a little differently, I could've made a delightfully droll wife/dog switcheroo joke; thanks, jerk.

This guy GETS. IT.

I can't disagree with a thing you said. I do think we have a responsibility towards dogs (and any domesticated animal but particularly dogs) because we took their survival skills from them to suit our purposes. Some of those purposes led them to be little shithead dogs (who I'm not a huge fan of but who did serve a great purpose to notify their owners of intruders) and some led them to be even more vicious than they are in the wild (fighting dogs, some extreme hunting dogs). And MOST breeds served the function of being companions to us. We have a common history and purpose. "Man's Best Friend" exists not only because we love them but because they have evolved alongside us.

Great post, Zizou.

You'll have to wear a collar, be on a leash, poop outside, piss in the hallway, and lick a Kong full of kibble and creamy peanut butter...

6:45 would work better for us.

It's not surprising that you don't love animals or your kids, as it's quite obvious that you don't love yourself. Playing a ladies man on a message board is grounds for psychological help.
