I am still trying to figure out why Toews is beyond criticism. If you are the most desired franchise player, he needs to bear some of the blame for the contiuned poor play at home. The team does not consistently get to three goals, and a shocker, another blown game.

I know Toews is a great player. I am just not sure he is the best.

Because he's a Canadian gold medalist who is a two-way center. There is literally nothing more you can ask of a hockey player than to play defense and be Canadian.

What saddens me is that I try to offer legit criticism, and the counter argument is that my opinions are dumb. So hard to have a reasonable discussion on the board. It is simply my opinion that he is overrated. Still great but not the best.

He's possibly the best two-way center in the league. It's between Toews, Kopitar, and Bergeron at this point, though right now you probably have to say Kopitar is in front. Getzlaf could be up there but he dogs it even more than this team does.

I get that goals come and go but defense is relatively constant, and he's been solid in that regard in this increasingly defensive league, but he really, really needs to score like an elite #1 center. He's not John Madden. Everyone loved what John Madden did for his teams, but no one gave him $84 million for it. Sharp's injury magnifies this. We can't get by on corner-working and some mean-mugging. He has to score a lot.
