Cutler would have been unmanageable with the tag, especially under the circumstances Kirkwood outlines. The Bears had two choices: sign him to a long-term contract or let him walk. Unfortunately, they made the wrong choice.

Did I say "great"?

I'm usually not prone to hyperbole like that. I haven't been that effusive in a billion years.

I do think this will prove to be a good draft. To be great, it would have to be incredibly deep because I don't think they drafted any superstars. But, it should be a solid draft to start filling some holes for the coming years.

$21 mil over 3 years and $21mil this year do very different things to the salary cap. Even you should be able to grasp that fact.

I couldn't remember what words were used. I knew you all liked picks that I was complaining about.

Before he converted some base salary into bonus he would've had a 20M+ cap hit. Now it's only 18.5 for pouty pants

I wish I would have seen more of Fuller but it sounds like he's been showing well in practice.

I think Ferguson and Sutton can be starters in the league in a year or two.

The punter will probably be here for a decade.

I thought Vereen would be one of those starters that you steal later in the draft but I'm starting to wonder about that one.

The Bears obviously seem more impressed with Carey's preseason than I have been. I thought he was a good pick but I haven't really seen much so far.

Obviously, I believe Fales can play. I thought he performed adequately in his first real action. Some good throws in there. If he was throwing to Marshall, Jeffery, and Forte, I think he'd look pretty good.

I also think Christian Jones could be made into something but he looks pretty raw right now.

If all but 1 or 2 of those hit, it's obviously great.

I suspect you'll get starters out of the top 3, maybe a couple backups in Vereen and Carey and Fales and that would still put it at pretty good.

Nonsense , What could Cutler do?

He's in his 4th or 5th system with 5 coordinaters..he's nationally questioned on attitude n health..he can't hold out...you would never make that $ back. He was humbled because a guy who was coaching H.S. football came in and outperforms him ..not to mention that the Locker room liked McCown more.

I'm sure no player wants to be tagged..but they have no choice but to go out n play well for a new deal, Losing the guy who came in n threw 15 tds and no picks was dumb ...considering the Bears could have gave him 3million for one year n he'd taken it.

LB might be the team's biggest weakness after drafting 3 over the last 3 years with high picks.

His answer to Joniak's Kromer question was pretty funbad.

Top-down military organization but Trestman has final say on Kromer? Plus, Trestman wasn't allowed to choose his DC or STC.

So freaking weird.
