Cubs, Nationals Discussing Jordan Zimmermann Deal
By Jeff Todd [November 11, 2014 at 8:04pm CST]

The Cubs are engaged with discussions with the Nationals to acquire starter Jordan Zimmermann, reports Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Tribune. Talks are serious enough that the sides have exchanged names that would be involved, with at least one top young middle infield likely to be part of the package.

He is a FA after next season so if they do get him, won't they want him signed first??

Glad to see they are going for it this off season. Rumor is if they get Zimmerman they still want Lester too and Martin.

2011 was the only year Castro was the lone representative on the Cubs.

His best year, by the way.

Rendon mostly played 3B, and Zimmerman finished the season playing the outfield and first base. 3B is Rendon's.

Unlike WS fans, i broke the Cardinal rule of not coming into Cub threads and arguing logic...

I can't think of any combination where that makes sense for Washington.

The more you think about it the more bogus this rumor is.

1. Chicago beat guys never breaks stories
2. Obvious rumors always seems to be a smokescreen.
3. Theo said they want to trade for young players. 29-30 is young?

Just to be clear, RYAN Zimmerman plays 3B. JORDAN Zimmerman is a pitcher.

You realize the reason Rendon came up is because we were discussing the Cubs' pieces needed in order to acquire Jordan Zimmermann, yes?

Rendon plays 3B (and is a natural 3B), Desmond plays SS, and this is why the Nationals are in the market to acquire a middle infielder (possibly from the Cubs)

Ryan Zimmerman will be playing the outfield next year for the Nationals

Anyway, been told nothing going on with Nats and I don't believe there is so back to chasing R. Martin. Now that's for real

Knew Chicago beat guys never break news. Dead giveaway.

A Cubs source refuted a published report that they were in talks with the Nationals to acquire All-Star starter Jordan Zimmermann, and had even discussed names.

“We’ve had no discussions, and he’s not available,” the source told the Tribune.

Nice job, Gordon

Why are the Nats looking to move Zimmerman? Those crazy Nats!

Loxas, who is a blogger who seems to have some sources, did say the talks occurred.

Could be fabricated as leverage for Lester. Could also be the Nats making it up to serve their own purposes as well.

Theo said a SS can play anywhere. Maybe they want him to play catcher
