I don't know how anyone can listen to more than 15 minutes of sports radio when it's NFL 95% dominated. I LOVE the NFL & the Bears but how many times can you here the same people repeat the same thing about a game that takes place once a week........
Add in the Bears longterm train wreck and it's music or MLB satellite for me.
At least in the MLB, NHL and (puke) NBA there's a new game to discuss almost eVey day.

Now the news of the Freeh report aka Bernsteins Hustler being a photocopy and not an Independent report is fun.

I don't support PSU but I do support bad things for the Score King.

Full disclosure that I was frustrated too by the NFL dominated talk, but I'm not sure how you can stay away from sports radio the past two weeks. This has been a once in a lifetime train wreck of epic proportions. If it wasn't bad enough already, the Bears administration is allowing these morons to continue trying to "fix it", whatever that means at this point. I'm loving every minute of it right now, but I'm sure I'll be sick of it if the Bears start winning again.

In fact, the last thing I want to hear today is anything other than the Bears.

I agree with you. Years ago I found myself disliking football ostensibly because of the non stop coverage provided by sports talk radio. The more they talked about it the less I liked it. The over analysis of all things Jay Cutler and the Bears in general becomes boring after awhile. Once the Bears ax Trestman Tucker Cutler and Marshall they will find another boogeyman to hammer away at. It's interesting how some are now finding ways to be Lovie loving after spending yrs bashing him. Pre Game Post Fantasy Sports book it's overkill.

Is it Friday already?

This is just terrific; aside from a host of other problems and questions this produces, it gives both "sides" - the pro-Penn and anti-Penn folks - reason to bitch anew, with extraordinary vim and vigor, about how the NCAA and their penalties (or lack thereof) were entirely unjust ... while I suspect very few on the 'anti' side are really in it to see justice and reforms carried out against the villains of this story, there is nobody on the 'pro' side that's in it for anything true and honest ... what a carnival of blather this is going to be yet again from everyone from Dano to Franco to Gov. Fucko.

Here's a real gem: Shep Cooper, an administrator for the NCAA's Committee on Infractions, wrote an email about those comments to Marsh. "For what it's worth, I agree," Cooper wrote. "However, the new NCAA leadership is extremely image-conscious and if they conclude that pursuing allegations against PSU would enhance the association's standing with the public, then an infractions case would follow. I know that Mark Emmert has made statements to the press indicating that he thinks it could fall into some sort of LOIC [loss of institutional control] case." Cooper ended the email: "'Shooting road kill' is an apt analogy."

What can Señor Columnist really say? Read the report. If anyone read the report (not the executive summary) they'd know it was flawed with gaps in facts and information. The facts (or lack thereof) in how the report was made are just now being brought forth in the courts despite being heavily fought by the NCAA and the PSU Board of Trustees to remain secret.

Can he go to his source(s)? Well there's the Pulitzer winner but she's working small stories for CNN and avoiding talking about the content of which she received her prize. What's on her mind these days?

CTE in a football player brain. Courtesy of Dr. Robert Stern. I have yet to interview a former football player who lets their son play today.

Hmmn, its not like they're hard to find. There's that one guy who's on every Sunday morning who has two sons playing pro ball. So I guess there isn't too much on her mind when she isn't being spoon fed information.

Maybe Señor Columnist will go to some of his old colleagues like Dan Wetzel from Yahoo! But the last time he was on he had begun to denounce the fringe elements of the Sandusky Sex Scandal on both sides and had the SC getting unexpected answers to his pat questions. While many in the media have either renounced their previous stance or at least now acknowledge that the Freeh Report is not and should not be the final word, there's still Gregg Doyel (CBS Sports) who still has JoePa serving as lookout on those cold nights in the Lasch building. But he's too much a loose cannon and might challenge the SC for being the smartest person in the room.

Outside of a grab bag of innuendo and intentionally misconstrued information, which he will toss out while heading to commercial, and the obligatory jab at Franco Harris there isn't much there. He'll probably ignore the whole thing (this is the anniversary period of Sandusky's arrest) and stick with taking jabs at the Catholic church and those Christians who don't openly embrace homosexuals who want to marry.

Then again, he can also be reminded of the old "NAMBLA" jokes he and the Human Parrot used crack (back when the Parrot had a voice and those jokes were considered funny). They once loved that stuff.

One thing kind of related the incessant Bears talk: How do people at WSCR stand having to listen to that trite Bears fight song all fucking day? It seems to me that is is played in every commercial break to either pimp some guest or show.

Closing my blinds to this show if Pedo St is the topic again. Not innerested.

Unless they get a guest or caller bring it up the flaws of Freeh and his report will not get mentioned.

More of Bernstein's 'opinion as fact'

Bernstein doesn't like what Derrick Rose said. As such, he's also decided that the team doesn't like him anymore. That includes management, coaching and his teammates.

And he knows this, because??

Spiegel kinda sorta started to challenge him but he quickly backed off. Almost as if a producer said in his ear to not contradict or challenge Bernstein.

Transition was short for me. Somewhere between Grimace's first heavy sigh, Bernstein's infallible management sources, and then Grimace's second more audible sigh, I figured the best thing was to PTFB. Bernstein has all the answers and speaks for all the powers that be, and he knows what's going on in Derrick's camp and what he's really meaning to say. All of this done with a smug confidence that means he will be repeating himself ad nauseam. Terry the parrot adds timely agreement on cue.

Yeah, I wish Spiegs would have asked him what specific evidence he has. Yelling 'It's True!' like Kurt Angle means nothing.

To be honest with you, there are many things about Bernstein that we can say that about. He seems to care a ton about the off the field/court stuff. I field myself saying out loud - 'why do you care'?

I also don't remember he and Terry being as passionate about Trestman's hiring than they do about their desire to see him fired...

Its Mariottiesque. That is why you here stupid shit like "winning the press conference" and "control of the locker room" "closer to a championship". That is his way of deflecting from actually having to watch the game. It appeals to the crowd that doesn't like serious sports analysis. This crowd of sports watcher merely concerns themselves with the gossipy side of sports. That is what most of the sports talk in Chicago has become. Every on the field outcome will always have an off the field subplot or side effect. What passes for actual analysis can be summed up simply by saying that the player was "good" or "bad". The rest of the diatribe will consist of how said player relates to teammates or how they are viewed by teammates. Also what is the public's perception of them. Emphasis will be placed upon the personality of the player and things like douche or non douche will be used to describe him. This is what passes for sporttalk these days not the actual game because it is unappealing to merely speak to the hardcore sports fan, as if they ever do; It is far more necessary to cater to the guy that wants to know about players sleeping with other players wives, arrest blotters, and social/political issues which barely relate to sports. This is sportstalk in 2014. I'm sure this stuff has probably been market tested and they found that the vast majority of "fans" care about this sort of thing as opposed to actual sports analysis and discussion about the game itself.

The question 'why do you care what he cares' is just as valid.

Did they make fun of Oscar Taveras' death because of his drunk driving? It would fit their St. Louis has creepy death thing narrative.

I'd just rather not hear anything from Matty about it. He snickered a bit last night when reporting it. Fucker is lucky he didn't kill anyone while he was driving drunk.

 We got the James Brown drop after the James Brown sports minute.

I don't know why that gets me to laugh every time but it does, expect when drinky ruins everything by being so obvious about it.

I never found it funny. But yeah, you just gave another example of drinky's bad attempts at comedy. With him, as much as he tries, you'd think he might hit on "being funny" once in a while. He never does. It's amazing. All misses.
