My guess is there is a lot that we don't know about. He basically has to go away after the season.

That's just dumb.

What benefit is there to keeping him?

I don't need to make that case. He's a good player who they just signed to a large contract. The burden is on those that want him gone to make a compelling case for doing that. So far, they've not come close to doing so. Not remotely close.

Quote:
Are there some championship aspirations for next year, or likely the year after that, I'm unaware of?

I mean, I don't see the other two teams that couldn't wait to see him go clamoring for him to come back and be a part of their team unless I need to get a better set of internet tubes installed at my residence.

Dan's nauseating analysis aside, I'm unable to discern what upside there is to keeping this colossal asswipe around the Bears any more than I'm aware of an upside to keeping Trestman past this season.

Again, what's so bad about having him? What is he actually hurting, at the bottom line? If something serious comes up, fine, ditch him. But this stuff is just garbage. You may not know it, but you're jumping on the Dan Bernstein moral-outrage bandwagon. It's a bad place to be.

Uh, yeah, mainly arrests and serious problems stemming from undiagnosed mental illness. This petty shit would have never got him removed from Denver.

From what I heard of it, today's show has been pretty good...that being said, one exchange did make me laugh in that "Bernstein gonna Bernstein" kind of way (I'm paraphrasing because I don't commit this shit to good memory):

Caller: maybe the Bears are just letting him do whatever so he does something stupid and they can get out of the contract

Dan: THERE IS NO GETTING OUT OF THE CONTRACT

Terry: no, you are paying that money

moments later:

Dan: well, maybe if he does box and they find he violated his contract

Terry: well, maybe...

* glares @ MiTC *

btw earlier i was just busting your balls about the whole "i've posted with you for years but don't remember a goddamn thing you've said!" --- that's pretty much my go-to retort when someone points out my typical excessiveness, since it gets me all defensive like "yeah well at least you Caller Bobs remember me!"

i don't wanna catch the business end of that boomstick. tho BRick works hard to earn his haterade i must confess. if you rile him up he'll follow you around the board for a week trying to poke and prod and push your buttons in the hope that you can give him yet another argument that cements his status as CSFMB debate team captain/legend!

you know, i honestly don't think it's exclusively that (tho of course that kind of stuff doesn't help) as much as it is that marshall is one of those guys who's fine when the team/offense/himself is doing good.... but when shit starts going bad he isn't exactly the type of inspirational leader and GREAT MOTIVATOR OF MEN that you want around. denver was looking at a rebuild as they had crap @ QB and were about to enter the tim tebow era.... miami had nobody at quarterback and wasn't primed to turn into a passing-based-offense that could maximize the value of a #1 WR.... and hey, brandon is what he is. he's got baggage and as beerstain has reveled in telling us over the weeks the rest of the team prolly doesn't like him all that much to a man.... but hey unless we're seeing his physical breakdown this season with the injuries and the career-worst-production, if he goes out there and gives you 1200+yds and 10+ TDs while making some of those !!!!! catches like the one in that SF game, man, you'll put up with a lot of bullshit to keep him around.

and whether he's an insane sociopath or not, the bears did good business to get the guy for, what, two third round draft picks? look at the #s he put up in his first two seasons..... i mean that's a price you pay time and time again even if the guy is a world class pudwhack.

you just need a team that can maximize the effectiveness of a guy like that and ride him to, say, 1 game from a playoff berth when you've got a damn-near-worst-defense-in-the-league like last year.... but when the team is going tits up and everything's falling apart.... shit. he aint gonna help. at least in miami he wasn't hanging out with a guy who got murdered, eh? that kind of baggage might have helped him leave denver, but the miami thing was still stupid to let him go for two third round picks and then turn around and throw all that huge $$$ at mike wallace within a year or two. you can claim some moral high ground or "we did it for our sanity" but in the end you still gave away a useful commodity (#1 WR) for a pittance.

btw can't you technically argue that just about every arrest ever made is technically due to some level of undiagnosed mental illness? YOU'RE. NOT. SUPPOSED. TO. GET. ARRESTED. aka ONLY. INSANE. PEOPLE. GET. ARRESTED.

I find this funny that they are firing on anybody who liked the Brandon Marshall trade. These guys were leading that parade.

Not only that they used the fact that B Marshall was a woman beater and violent felon as a way to show us all that Bears management had now grown up past quaint thoughts of "good guy" players and moved on to "BIG BLACK STUDS."

BernSTINE didn't give two shits he was a violent woman beater.

I didn't say you were a Bernstein dick-rider, I said you getting on his moral outrage bandwagon. Different thing entirely. Take a step back, look at what this really is. It's just a bunch of nonsense. Tons of public figures have challenged people to a boxing match for charity through the years. Bad timing, from a bad spokesperson? Yeah, sure. But so what, really? What's the end-game here? Roll your eyes and move along, and if anything that's actually a big deal happens worry about it then.

Yep. Dan was fine with all of it until the press conference, at which point he's been on a witch-hunt.

exactly. i remember something to the effect of "he did that in denver and he's gotten professional help and etc etc and when it came to him being a walking talking dumbass i beiieve dan's response was something like "i don't care. go catch some damn footballs"

now that the bears' offense has finally caught up to its defense, go figure that THE THINKING MAN'S SHOW that used to be the home to EXTREME FOOTBALL WITH MATT BOWEN isn't utilizing all of that insane tactical knowledge to tell us what's going wrong with the bears on the field and why an offense that was ranked #2 in points or whatever last year is now bad.... there's nary a peep on what's happening with WR routes and the o-line and what decisions is cutler botching..... we're hearing nothing about MIKE AND SAM LINEBACKER: FOOTBALL BROTHERHOOD on defense and why the defense is so shit.... all we're hearing is ad hominem generalizations about how marc trestman is a creepy little autist with no authority in the lockeroom and that brandon marshall is an INSANE SOCIOPATHIC CANCER!!!! and rah rah rah blah blah blah all this ad hominem shit yet NOTHING ABOUT WHAT'S ACTUALLY GOING WRONG ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD.

maybe the fact they've toned down / buried bowen segments = they listened to the words here that hearing HARDCORE ALL-22 ANALYSIS FROM MATT BOWEN wasn't exactly the most enthralling listen and they quietly decided to ditch the SABRmetric/statistical equivalent of football discussion and go back to visceral meatball crap like I HATE THAT JAY CUTLER BECAUSE HE LOOKS LIKE HE DOESN'T GIVE A DAMN! HIS BODY LANGUAGE IS TERRIBLE! (which IIRC they used to openly lambast others doing it by saying "YES JAY CUTLER IS A PUDWHACK AND HE'S NOT A LEADER BUT HE'S STILL WHAT YOU'VE GOT AND YOU HAVE TO TRY TO MAKE IT WORK WITH HIM. END OF DISCUSSION) --- hell they welcomed the mccown stuff even if they ostentatiously picked the cutler side to rile up the "meatball" callers into taking the bait and calling up to get told how to pronounce mccown (i swear to god every time i hear barry rozner on the score he goes back to that "IT'S MICK COW-NNNN" routine) before being told how fucking wrong they were (and still are)

but yeah, go figure that this embracing of meatballism has coincided with what many are calling the resurgence of the b&b ALS because now that the bears are known to not be any damn good (once again) we can stop the VERY. IMPORTANT. RADIO. / Bears brand #Synergy and get back to what the show does best: be bad, weird, fun, gay, and awful while taking shots at the sacred cows of the chicago sports scene (unless of course it's the cubs or any one of the VERY. SMART. PEOPLE. who have comprised "the golden age of GMs" in chicago) --- but at the same time the re-renaissance of the program still does regurgitate some of dan's SOCIAL JUSTICE tendencies, like his current crusade to singlehandedly run brandon marshall out of town cuz go figure now that brandon marshall isn't putting up #1 WR moments we're hypercritically overanalyzing everything he says/does looking for evidence that he's a bonafide lunatic who needs to be shipped out of dodge ASAP.

that said, watch for b&b to be some of the first to go all-in with the marquess wilson ALS, cuz marquess is listed at 6'4/190 which compares to marshall's 6'4/230, so add ~10-15lbs of lean muscle to that physique and grow into your NFL/man body and hey whaddya know you've got another big target for jay cutler to replace the one you wanna run out of town because..... evidently you really don't wanna give us any analysis of why the bears are bad other than just going OMFG THEY'RE HISTORICALLY BAD! TRESTMAN IS DONE IN CHICAGO! MARSHALL IS DONE IN CHICAGO! MEL TUCKER IS DONE IN CHICAGO (EVEN THOUGH HE'S ONLY A SACRIFICIAL LAMB) AS A MATTER OF FACT CLEAR EVERYONE OUT AND GIVE EMERY ONE MORE COACH TO GET IT RIGHT!

ah well c'est la vie. i guess when the team is good and there isn't high drama on the open seas to make programming the show ridiculously easy they are afforded the luxury of being able to go out and give us HARDCORE TACTICAL ANALYSIS.... but when the team's bad and broad brush ad hominem radio is easy, shit, nobody wants to hear WHY the team is bad just know that they're bad because they're bad and they're always going to be bad til they do what we say and yeah we've got must-hear audio from brandon marshall who we hate and whose message is total bullshit and nobody should have to hear.... so we've got it cued up right after the break! you're listening to 670 the whore!

re: not going full Bowen at a time like this, maybe it's sort of like a Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs thing here. Before you can worry about Mikes, Sams, and double-stop spin-trip jump shifts, you have to worry about blocking and tackling. Before you can worry about blocking and tackling, you have to worry about your coach being a dithering weirdo who lets players go all "FITE ME U POSER" on twitter when not calling random rambling press conferences. The Bowen stuff came when there wasn't much locker room drama nor basic failure to perform: a/k/a the halcyon days of 8-8/10-6 Lovie Smith.

The brand synergy stuff is why you gotta think Trestman is a goner. With Dan being as connected as he is now and the Score being a mere part of the CBS portfolio, I'm pretty confident that if the Bears wanted all hands on deck for Trestman, they'd have Dan's buddy in public relations make it so and that would be that. That there's no imperative to stand by Trestman through thick and thin for anyone but pissant Zaidman makes you think the Bears are not terribly interested in presenting a unified front with their broadcasting partner.

Your guess is just that - a guess.

You are falling into the same trap Bernstein does - you have a pre-formed opinion on what will happen based on what did happen before. That's reasonable, but suggesting that something HAS happened without any evidence is not fair.

If Brandon Marshall does something terrible along those regards, then we'll address it accordingly.

What we DO know is that he and his wife have done a lot of charitable work and have written a lot of checks for said charities.

Why does he need to go away? He's having a down year (as is the whole team) and is hurt. Assuming his skills haven't diminished, he's still one of the best 5-6 WR in the game. Why would he need to go away? Because he's annoying?

Why does he need to go away?

Maybe because he is a giant asshole on a non-performing team. Just another brain dead thug.

Just my thoughts.

I was fixing to fire off a snarky line about the Marshall extension going in the first line in Emery's obituary, but the big guarantees actually run out after this year. I'd cut him the minute the clock strikes 0:00 on the season.

He's not connected.

The show has a designated Bears PR flak that feeds them corporate stuff to parrot on the air. It's similar to the PR guy that tells BermSTINE what to say. They have no real sources.

Trust me, I have no belief that BernSTINE has any real insider's honest insight. Even less that he really understands the sports he purports to follow.

Ben Bentley would look at BernSTINE and shake his head in rightful disgust.

Yeah this whole affair has kind of reminded me of when he turned on Ray Lewis before the Super Bowl a couple years ago. Suddenly they were seriously concerned about The Incident and his steroid use when it was clear to everyone that his real mistake was mentioning God one too many times during the playoffs.

Bernstine has no credibility on this issue. When he believed that Marshall would "get them closer to a championship" he clearly wanted him. Now that the wheels are falling off he wants him gone. Has anyone called up to point this out and if so what has been the response? Were they shouted down in Bernstein fashion or was there an admittance that he is flip flopping?

Not threatened. Just have some actual content and all will be good.

Anyways, how about you bump this when Marshall is starting for the Bears in week 1 next year and I bump it when Marshall is traded, released, or facing a suspension from the league?

I don't think Marshall is going anywhere as long as Cutler is here.

As a recipient of grave threats via @twitter, "block" policy is far less important than increased commitment to cooperation with police/FBI.

Its Twitter, clearly there was no crime here, and if there were it is being policed by the proper authorities.

I think a collective insanity has fallen over this city.

You put up with some shit from your stars (Manny just being Manny). Hell, you put up with some shit from your non stars (Tank just being Tank).

And yes, just getting two years of Pro Bowl WR work meant winning the trade. When your stupid friend in Miami laughs, understand that he was wrong for over two years.

Another useless post by you.

Oh, don't feel so threatened. You'll always be the board's most useless asshole.
Not threatened. Just have some actual content and all will be good.

Hi MattInTheCrown!

How you doing today?
