Come on. You know you can't conflate football with the real world on this one. Football coaching is nothing but job-hopping! In fact, conflating real-world office culture with the elaborate fantasyland of football is kind of how we wound up with Marc Trestman in the first place, inasmuch as all he does is barf out warmed-over business jargon that sounds good to and from MBAs and somehow serves its purpose there but isn't germane to coaching at all.

The red flag here, simply put, is that Trestman had been out of the NFL for eight years and out of the entire sport of American football for six years. At a time when the NFL changes more from year to year than it ever has, you need to look at coaches on the vanguard, not guys who had been off coaching a bunch of part-timers and practicing law. Before you even get to all his character flaws, you should have ruled him out based on the fact that his most recent projects were Rich Gannon and Jerry Rice.

I don't care what line of work you are in, job hopping is a red flag. It says that you frequently wore out your welcome & that your employers didn't value you enough to keep you & promote you.

So job hopping with numerous lateral moves is a good sign?

Change what? People who change jobs frequently are people who I don't want as part of my organization. Huge red flag.

I picked an NFL head coach at random: Ken Whisenhunt. That's a name where I'm like "hey, I know that guy sure is a football coach." So let's look at his resume:

Vanderbilt University (1995–1996)
(Special teams/tight ends/H-backs coach)
Baltimore Ravens (1997–1998)
(Tight ends coach)
Cleveland Browns (1999)
(Tight ends coach)
New York Jets (2000)
(Special teams coach)
Pittsburgh Steelers (2001–2003)
(Tight ends coach)
Pittsburgh Steelers (2004–2006)
(Offensive coordinator)
Arizona Cardinals (2007–2012)
(Head coach)
San Diego Chargers (2013)
(Offensive coordinator)
Tennessee Titans (2014–present)
(Head coach)

That's seven NFL organizations and a college in twenty years! Now admittedly, I couldn't write the definitive biography on Ken Whisenhunt, but I don't think he's someone who wears out his welcome any more than any football coach does. It's just a profession where people bounce around a lot. Some of those moves are upward, some lateral, some downward, one internal promotion. In fact, if there's a blemish on that list, it's that he went to work for a lousy organization like the Arizona Cardinals.

Ironically, the coach you yourself covet, one Jim Harbaugh, would find himself out of one job and into another one here PRECISELY BECAUSE in spite of his results over four years, people got tired of his shit.

I read a lot of resumes & have hired a lot of people. The first thing that always jumps off the page is the number of jobs a candidate has held. Job hopping is a red flag. Trestman has had way too many jobs. Trestman has worked for 13 different teams since 1981, with 10 of the 13 teams employing him for 3 years or less. I am hoping the Bears become the 11 team to employ Tresty 3 years or less.

That's a bit out of touch now. The average time people spend with one employer is decreasing, and it's not because people are being fired. And in any case like CH mentioned you cannot compare the 9-5 world to sports leagues. Different dynamics at play. Several top coaches in all leagues have been employed by different organizations. I'm guessing if you managed the Milwaukee Bucks you'd turn down Phil Jackson's resume since he's already been with three different organizations.

 you liked trestman and said the bears were going to go to the superbowl this year.

jeff fisher hasn't job hopped but he's certainly coasted on his one super bowl appearance for a long enough time.

Are you really this dense, or it this an act?

If job hopping is a red flag, how in the hell do you explain all the fucking retreads you find coaching in not only the NFL, but NCAA? It is a fucking coaching carousal. The only thing that matters is the win/loss record. What does not mater is if the coach has read "Who moved my cheese?"

The only thing that will turn the team around is if the Old Bat croaks, and either they sell, or someone with a fucking clue cleans house. Want a example? Look too the Blackhawks.

Still, if it makes you feel great at night while you look at your Jim Harbaugh Fathead, while you jackoff to to dreams of him coaching this crap team, go for it.

Just don't come crying to us when your one true love goes to coach Michigan. Harbaugh's act does not last long with professional players. It works well in college.

Well if Scorehead was in charge, that would be a read flag and he would not hire him. I mean, not when Harbaugh is snuggling with Scorehead and yelling at him in his ear.

I think Scorehead would be happy with any square-jawed alpha male who said something like "I'm gonna run the Bears like a business!"

Bain Capital tried to buy the entire NHL in 2004. We could have had NHL Commissioner Mitt Romney.

He would have been better than Gary Bettman.

He still needs to be fired. What a fucking mess they are.

He better be over there kissing Cutler and Marshall's feet for allowing him to survive another week.

Great job by Emery of getting rid of Peppers too! Jared Allen has filled the void well!

Peppers just had a pick 6, BTW.

Unfortunately, this Bears win saves Trestman for a while. I was hoping for anothr disaster today just to see what Bears brass would do.

Do you think this win and next week's inevitable win keeps him from getting fired at the end of the year? I think the McClaskeys are looking for any reason they can find not to fire him. They'll say he rebounded admirably or some shit.

No. There are some ugly losses on the horizon. NO, Dallas, at least one of the Detroits.

Thanksgiving might be a national disaster.

The first quarter was a coaching abortion. Penalties, fake punts, broken plays... I think Trestman is truly "unique."

I think they will win next week, but I wouldn't call it inevitable.

Yup. Thats exactly what I am afraid of. The Bears are run very similar to The Score. They are passive, slow, and don't make bold decisive decisions.
