How does that mitigate CTE concerns though? I got to think I'll take the risks of torn ACLs, broken ankles, and 90mph projectiles over CTE and paralysis when it comes to sports.
Moving this to the other thread.

'Baseball is dying' might be even dumber than the Vegas White Sox thoughts.

Easy money.

This is an even crappier plan than The Plan.

All I could find about the Sox TV deal is $450,000 per game broadcast on Comcast SportsNet Chicago. Fee for games broadcast on WGN: N/A. Didn't listed the expiration date. Sox got the same figure as the Cubs which is a pretty sweetheart deal. I wonder when expiration of their deal is.

I wonder if you buy the Sox if Jerry would let the buyer get the corresponding 20% Comcast share. But since the buyer would be moving them to Vegas who cares?

Move into free stadium with cheap lease, sign a TV deal, collect revenue sharing payments for being in a small market. Write up a nice prospectus for buyers on the cash flow and flip for a tidy sum.

Owning the 20% of CSN is probably more lucrative than the rights fee itself. The Bruins own 20% of NESN and therefore get a nice share of Red Sox money without anything having to do with hockey.

Anyway, you're out to lunch if you're really trying to make an argument for a major-league team, one of our major-league teams, in Las Vegas, and I don't give a fuck how many bachelor parties you get invited to, it's a bad idea.

Why would Jerry sell the 20% share? Right now he has 40% share even though he owns a baseball team no one cares about and basketball team that has 25 of its 82 games on national TV. The compensation from TNT, ESPN, ABC I'd wager is pretty nice.

I'm sure it's organized so that the White Sox own 20% and the Bulls own 20%. As a shorthand, 40% is under Jerry Reinsdorf's influence, but the ownership groups have different compositions and I'm sure the different people would like to cash in on the entire White Sox property, not just the team, while holding on to an RSN that loses value as it loses about 300 hours of DVR-proof programming.

It really is amazing that you think this is something that could easily happen. Its not like selling a house or getting a new apartment. The league has to approve it, the owners have to approve it, the city has to approve it, the new city has to build a stadium or whatever and approve all that.

As much as you want the Sox in Vegas, its probably not going to happen. Not that you have any way of getting o Vegas anyway.

I don't think so. Unless you don't have other options I dont see why at least semi informed parents would allow their kids to pursue football, unless they're totally free spirits or something who believe absolutely in personal autonomy at super young ages.

I honestly have no problem with my kid playing football, I believe in a lot of the mandates that have been placed down, as far as the amount of hitting and the concussion protocols put in place.

Especially since even he agrees that ballet dancing isn't a sport.

Don't get pissy with me because I'm not applauding you for letting your kid play a violent sport in spite of evidence that he shouldn't.

What the fuck business is it of yours what I let my some do? There was a discussion on the subject, I made a point and then you became a fucking prick.

Excuse me, did I somehow pry in making it my business? You made it part of the discussion by volunteering some credulous bullshit about how "concussion mandates" will make it acceptably safe, never mind the fact that anyone at a board centered around WSCR knows the peril of the sport is in sub-concussive trauma, not concussions themselves. I thought this was stupid and you got buttshook over I don't know what, exactly. Other people here have been meaner than I am; I don't think I'm the one guy here you and your friends tried running away from.

No, not really; we lost them all to Las Vegas because we're a frozen ghetto shithole with usurious hotel taxes and union rules written by Eugene Debs.

But the rest of your point stands. There is no way in hell that baseball lets a team move out with an extant stadium lease. Even the Rays, a dead team walking since day one because of their shitty dome and fair-weather fanbase, have been made to honor their lease. For all the shit Comiskey gets for being Not Wrigley, it's a thoroughly sufficient modern stadium with modern revenue streams, plentiful parking, and transit access in a world-class city. You can't just get up and go from it.

Yeah, this too. Lake Mead's water levels are at record lows and dropping. Did people really think the good times were going to last forever? I wouldn't want anything to do with Phoenix or Las Vegas in the coming years. To call Las Vegas a house of cards makes me feel like a hack, but...

Las Vegas is going to run out of water a lot sooner than 30 years from now.

I don't listen to WSCR.

As much as Bernstein goes crazy with it, I wasnt referring to him.

Im talking people who wont let their kids play

Question Hawg, if you had another kid, would you let him play? Im just asking if the fact that your kid is older and already playing affected your choice

The problem is that there's no way short of flag football to divorce the game from torque and force on the skull. It's death by a thousand lines of scrimmage.
