I don't think I've seen them connected to him the way other teams have been specifically mentioned, but the White Sox have been rumored because of Abreu.

If they are looking to make a splash in free agency, this may be the way to do it since Martinez is staying in Detroit unless they surprise everyone with a top pitcher.

The teams he is connected to aren't the type of teams that throw around $100M either. The Royals? Giants, maybe. WSox have big time Cuban ties and tons of payroll.

The White Sox already have Yasmany Tomas, his name is Dayan Viciedo. Both RH, both have power and both can't play defense.

Speaking of which: 19 year old Dayan Viciedo enters the league today as opposed to 3 years ago... how much does he get?

The Dodgers are targeting Alexei. Joc Pederson would work thank you very much.

I don't know why the Sox would want to trade Alexei. Their defense was awful last year, and Alexei was one of the few guys who was awesome with the glove. His bat is not bad either. Besides that, who would replace him at SS?

He's coming off a good year and he's signed to a very reasonable two year contract. His value will never be higher than it is right now. They can sign a stopgap for a year or play Semien/Sanchez until Tim Anderson is ready. I don't want to see Alexei go but they have to strike while the iron is hot.

I don't think they move him unless given an offer they can't refuse.

The #Dodgers certainly have outfielders to move in any trade but have high pricetag on Matt Kemp

The #Dodgers are aggressively pursuing #Whitesox shortstop Alexei Ramirez in trade talks.

Well it looks like the Sox got a LOOGY. They signed Zach Duke to a multi-year contract. Hope it works out better than Scott Downs. I have serious questions about Rick Hahn's ability to build a bullpen.

Did a really nice job for the Brewers last year. I figured he would get a multi year deal and they wouldn't bring him back.

He really settled into the role out of the pen and did a pretty good job against righties.

we need more talk about Duke on Chicago sports talk radio.

I'm still waiting for the guy to be the dominant starter I thought he would be.

Seems like a nice signing for a needed position

signing a reliever to a multi-year deal with a history of one year being competent in relief sounds like a great idea.

Beyond the Box Score ‏@BtBScore

Zach Duke's strikeout percentages since 2011:
2011: 9.5%
2012: 17.9%
2013: 12.7%
2014: 31.1%
Find the outlier

2013, the only year he regressed?

He didnt start working out of the pen til 2011 on a limited basis and full time in 2013

Andrew Miller had bad numbers until he went to the pen and became dominant

Definitely worth the minimal risk

3yr/$15M. Yesh. At least Hahn realized it is important to have a lefty in the bullpen. That's progress.

Correct. His numbers as a reliever;
Quote:
However, when used out of the bullpen Duke has a 3.28 ERA and 107/39 K/BB ratio in 129 innings, including 74 strikeouts in 59 innings this season.

Don't be hatin' Kirkwood. Sox are actually trying to improve their roster while Theo just burns thru managers.

Nice gig to be a competent lefty reliever. Wow.

Market for bullpen arms exploding.

Its kind of a catch 22, gd. The Sox need relief pitching, and Robertson, Romo, etc are likely to get many more millions than what Duke just signed for.

Never said it was a great deal, Kirkwood. Try using the actual words people post rather than making stuff up. Not all of us have our sights set on Gavin Floyd.

5/15 is steep but the Sox absolutely needed somebody like this.

I have to amend this. For some reason I assumed it was a one or two year deal.

Still think it's a good risk assuming you can afford to pay 5 million a year if he doesnt work out (I would think most teams could swing that)
