It's a good move for the Sox. They needed bullpen help and got it. Pitching is really expensive. You also have a guy who could spot start if needed. The contract looks reasonable to me.

We lost like 8 games last year because our lefty reliever went from Scott Downs to Erik Surkamp. Both were awful.

Gotta pay when it gets that bad.

His fastball velocity increased by a little over 1.5 mph last season. That's a significant increase for a 30 yr old pitcher. Hopefully he's able to hold that velo bump or he might not make it to the end of 2016.

He had a very good off season but for some reason he thought his job was done on Opening Day. He did nothing in season to improve a horrible back of the rotation and putrid bullpen besides rape the waiver wire for other teams cast offs. Hahn has to show he can build a bullpen and that he has the balls to make in season moves to improve the team.

They're not going to Bismarck. It's gonna be Minot... the Minot B-52's. MLB chasing the bored Air Force demographic.

Unless you wanted to trade talent, there was not much he could do. There were too many injuries and/or poor performances. It was a dead year no matter what with Flowers, Dunn. Tank, Konerko, etc taking up roster space.

Dye was coming off injuries, it wasnt a big deal at the time.

The Lee trade was a big move. A.J. was not.

The Sox payroll is WAY too low. They need to spend more money if they want to compete. Of course we can cross our fingers that they end up good while also not paying well but that is unlikely to happen. I want them to do both.

My point is painfully obvious. You can't expect to win if you have a low payroll. Now, you may end up doing it but it makes things much harder.
It most certainly matters. You have a better chance of winning with a high payroll.
