Man,this really sucks. There is a bunch of good guys on there. It's a bad day for anyone who wants better sports talk radio (more competition) .

Now Finfer is a stooge. Now he is going to defend management? What a fucking turd.

well if you read in between the lines he said that he has to give up his apartment [in the city] to go to back to buffalo grove or something, so knowing they've got deadspin plugging their show so ppl can listen to do the meltdown and etc etc.... so he wants the rest of these 6 weeks to transition out of his apartment,, which you can maybe guess were 6 month leases and etc..... so he wants to stick around and ride out these last 6 weeks, but at the same time he's making his name for himself with REAL RADIO so its gonna be a tightrope balance of going HAM on the establishment and toeing the line just enough to stick around.

if it was rsgreg who emailed deadspin to get this up, he might have done them a favor to make them potential appointment radio for the next 6 weeks as WILL THEY RETURN TOMORROW?!?!!? radio for KEEPING IT REAL and etc? so it'll be interesting to see what happens. i'm guessing by next wake it's the same ol same ol show with 25% more edge and we'll see if that's a glowing resume entry after DEADSPIN.COM TOP STORY 11/20/14 CIRCA 1:50PM CST.

The media doesn't have any trouble reporting similar news about athletes...not so cool when the tables are turned, I guess.

Well that's just all kinds of stupid.

I'm on Team Douchebag on this one:

THE memo:

"We will discontinue programming of The Game and sports radio on 87.7 on December 31, 2014. WGN Radio is working to continue to produce the Kap & Haugh Show for CSN Chicago. We're looking to expand our sports footprint on WGN Radio as well as online and via social media. Our Free Form media initiative, wgn.fm, will take a different form to be an incubator for new talent, alternative conversation, and classic Chicago audio called WGN Plus in 2015. That content will all be distributed on demand at wgnradio.com. The final Garry Meier Show streamed live on wgn.fm yesterday."

— Robert Channick

There are just too many red flags:

* Even if DeCastro has morphed into a completely clueless dumbass over the years, I just don't believe the news of pulling the plug on the station would be announced in such a shitty, classless, and gutless way,

* The highlighted text above,

* The convenient date: December 31st. Why wait until then? I don't think that they have any real obligations to sponsors that would prevent them from ending it now,

* The highlighted text above,

* Letting your on-air talent continue to broadcast until the alleged end date. Gives them way too much rope to torpedo their bosses, especially when the talent probably doesn't have that much to lose,

* The highlighted text above.

My feeling is that they are announcing it in this way for some pub, and they will follow up by some sort of announcement about a new frequency and maybe a somewhat shuffled lineup.

I put the odds of me being wrong at about 1-5.

So, between losing interest in call after call of people saying they never stopped listening to The Game and the biological imperative of having to go push some mud (speaking of a legit shit-canning) I didn't hear if there was any interesting transition talk .... anything of value occur?

Yes, and then Payton mentioned it at the very beginning of J, H & S.

If this were a stunt, then why would they dump Brandmeier immediately?

"Also out, effective immediately, are former WGN personalities Jonathon Brandmeier and Garry Meier, sources said. Brandmeier’s morning show aired on The Game 87.7 and the online streaming site wgn.fm. Meier’s afternoon show aired only on wgn.fm."

Get rid of the high priced guys and re-brand as another station? I think this is legit.

Exactly. They're dumping the high priced contracts.

For ole times sake:

What's Going on at Chicago Sports Webio?

With radio in turmoil and big name hosts getting axed across town, radio personalities are sometimes going to unusual lengths to reach an audience. After leaving The Score (670AM) last year, veteran sports radio host Mike North joined forces with David Hernandez to launch Chicagosportswebio.com as an internet sports-talk platform. Things started to get weird there last week, when it was reported that North was fired from his executive role at the start-up by Hernandez after North question why the media outlet's checks were bouncing.

Later in the week, the FBI executed search warrants at the company, and on Monday the SEC charged North's partner with running a ponzi scheme through his NextStep Financial company. He is alleged to have sold "guaranteed investment contracts" that were simply paid off with proceeds from later investors. These funds were also diverted to ChicagoSportsWebio's accounts as well as Hernandez's personal accounts, where he use used to buy cars, jewelry and pay off his mortgage.

Did North know that Hernandez was not exactly the best business partner, and that this venture might come crashing down? After all, Hernandez is an ex-con who served time for wire fraud and has filed for personal bankruptcy three times. With the arrest of business partner, what's to become of ChicagoSportsWebio? North might find himself off the air yet again. Perhaps, like Steve Dahl, he can find enough of an audience on Twitter until his contract expires.

Comcast Sportstalk at 5:30 tonight should be interesting. Kap usually gives 87.7 guys facetime on his TV show.

yeah they're just dropping the occasional quick quip and moving onwards with the show as usual. so much for that must-hear-radio. at least finfer seemingly took a shot!

Driving home drunk from a paid appearance is not the best way to keep your career afloat either.

Dahl should be looking to scoop up Buzz immediately. They work well together.

Why would you ever retire from radio? Getting paid for 4 hours of bullshitting is a dream.

That's actually a good idea. Buzz is apparently 70 years old (with the internal organs of a 90 year old), though he's looked exactly the same since he was 35 or so.

didn't he get caught up and swerving because he was trying to roll a joint on 90/94 before the split-to-94 and then when he finally got rolled (he had a EGV-mayor-gallitano-crusader follow him til the cops got to him tbh) he had a bunch of weed crumbs on his shirt because he ended up eating the joint b4 getting rolled?
