The idea that there was some sort of need for a third sportstalk radio station in this town was beyond absurd. I feel badly for the way the on air folks learned of their beheadings, but this idea was nuts. There is not that much to talk about. Not that much to spin.

Awful day for those of us here at The Game. Great staff of talented people. I feel horrible for everyone here.

Brutal part of the business today. I pray everything works out for all of our staff who worked tirelessly to build something from ground up.

Finfer has learned from the best. Now he should take 2 separate 3-month vacations and demand a drivetime slot.

True, but he also didn't learn about while on air.

David Haugh can have "Can be heard daily on 87.7" at the end of his columns. KC Johnson can have his appearances be noted at the end of his articles as well.

Even channel 9 can help them out by having Dan Roan play their interviews on his sports segments

Harry doesn't really have to worry about working anyway. I'd say he's covered financially.

What a dumb ass cracker!!!!! I think I later said they wouldn't make it after I saw the first 3 months of ratings. Their many outlets couldn't help the bad talent.

So I'm now 978-1 for those keeping score.

Just for comparison, Houston has 5 sports stations. Granted there is national content mixed in on some of those stations, but apparently the Houston market can sustain 5.

This city could certainly handle 3 stations. Gotta have a good frequency, though. Why not 890 or 720? It's cheaper to do sports talk and they're both falling hard right now anyway.

Think about THE SCORE. 6 guys make big bucks. 20 dumb ass crackers make nothing. And they clear like 30 million a year in profit per year

ESPN has 4 guys making big bucks. Mornings are handled by corporate. 20 dumb ass crackers make nothing. And they clear 20 million in profit per year.

Do we know that to be true for Payton? His dad had a couple of bars/restaurants that closed up. There was also the racing venture. Those can be very costly investments.

I've said it before. The most Walter Payton ever made with the Bears was a little over 1 million dollars. And that was his last 2 or 3 years with the Bears. NFL hadn't blown up yet. Walter retired after the 1987 season.

I know he had shoe deals and Wheaties commercials. But they didn't pay what they're paying now a days. He did have some failed business ventures as well. Plus he lived it up pretty well and probably spent a lot of it. Connie probably got most of what was left anyway. So I don't think Walter's kids have it made for life.

Interesting radio. Probably not the greatest idea for Finji but I appreciated the raw emotion.

Still, doesn't rival the Webio final day with Chet, Boom Boom, and Ed O'Neill - but they were allowed to swear.

Yes.

I think it used to be up on youtube, but last time I had checked, someone had pulled it. Great stuff.

Payton doesn't have any school loans to payback, I'm sure he invested his two or years in the league well...and doesn't he have that Sweetness beer?

Driving home drunk from a paid appearance is not the best way to keep your career afloat either.

I'll see if I can figure out how.

I sent them to Kid a couple years ago to put online.

I'm guessing that probably won't happen now.

I wonder if the Score brings back any of these traitors. I would tell Hoge and Finfer to fuck off. Not as bad as the webio situation, but this should be a lesson about jumping ship to start up stations. Give them time to grow, and then make a move.

Finfer has been "growing" for what, 10 years now? Hoge came out of nowhere.
You make it seem like it was a lateral move for the same money, but it really wasn't. Plus with the WGN and Tribune ties, it would seem like a reasonable opportunity especially if they were getting a raise.

Different. He got fired by CBS. His station didn't go under like 87.7. Big Fan reported that corporate wouldn't allow Goff's return to THE SCORE. Goff accidentally confirmed that on this board while not realizing he was confirming it.
