I think the whole cultural ill of The Participation Bauble is overstated. When kids get the white/yellow ribbon, they know they're losers, and other kids have the evidence to prove it. Why do you think I made sure to get a blue ribbon in the 4th grade Survival Run?

Ill admit I'm the first one to rail about participation trophies and the like but I gotta tell ya, the thought of rogue jr standing at the finish line with tears running down his face after finishing 4th in a race or something is already breaking me up inside and has me wondering what I'm going to buy him to make it better

yes, that's because of the fact that the trophies and ribbons are for the parents, not the kids. as GD correctly pointed out, kids don't care about them. parents do though. they just gotta brag about something...and then DRINK WINE TONIGHT!

It is not so much the bragging that interests them. They are highly sensitive to their child experiencing any pain, rejection, failure. They think the token insulates the child.

Obviously you cant coddle them, but its also understandable to not want your toddler or little kid to feel those things.

I know its part of life, but its hard for parents to let that happen

of course you don't want them to feel it but you cannot let them live with a false reality

Everyone has a strength just as much as a weakness. Failure helps to highlight the areas of strength and in the end actually solidifies a strength.

Pain motivates (not the AP kind of pain).

Think about your life. You avoid pain much more than you seek pleasure.

Agreed. Im just saying it's easy to see why parents fall into that, especially at toddler ages

I wonder if you buy the Sox if Jerry would let the buyer get the corresponding 20% Comcast share. But since the buyer would be moving them to Vegas who cares?

Move into free stadium with cheap lease, sign a TV deal, collect revenue sharing payments for being in a small market. Write up a nice prospectus for buyers on the cash flow and flip for a tidy sum.

To clarify, the Yankees and Mets have deals that escalate... I couldn't really understand the algorithym and legal jargon to explain these in more detail (if anyone cares)

I knew the Dodgers had a good TV deal, but wow. That certainly explains how they have all the do-re-me to go buying up free agents as they have.

Not pushing it at all. Please feel free to find the origination of the reason for the Vegss Sox RUMOR.

MLB wants to sell franchises, not move them.

And no one can watch the games because the cable providers won't pay the carriage fees for the Dodgers' channel AND the Lakers' channel AND the Angels/Kings/Ducks/Clippers channels.
