makes sense if they are trying to sell the team. try to be a bit more respectable, but don't add too many liabilities to the balance sheet.

Not taking the bait JORR. I think these moves make sense given the market dynamics on the South Side.

Any update on the new ownership group??

The problem is better players signed for less. I would rather have Cuddyer and Butler. Morse will probably be cheaper too.

They got him for about $5M last year.

I haven't heard anything else.

Seriously though, I can remember before the Sox won in '05 just thinking that if they ever won one I could die and be happy. I haven't changed my mind. I'll never forget standing on 35th Street with other goofs just like me.

I have a lot of friends who are Cub fans. I just can't see the celebration in throwing so many seasons away. I understand there are going to be years where you have a team that probably can't win, but that's a lot different than purposely killing five percent of the seasons in your lifetime.

They have Tank though so they obviously needed that LH stick.

LaRoche is a plus fielding left handed power bat that will hit 30 home runs

He's 35 years old and he's hit 30 home runs two times in 11 seasons. Excuse us for not throwing a parade over this.

The onerous debt covenants on the Ricketts purchase basically precluded them from spending a lot of money. I wanted Cuban as owner but us Cubs fans we are stuck with Ricketts. Let's hope they can negotiate a good TV deal but with Crane Kenney involved with that, I can't see revenues being maximized.

In the interim, 2015 should be an exciting year for The Cub with Maddon, Bryant, Soler, Rizzo et al. We shall see what they do this offseason to upgrade the rotation. The bullpen is very solid so if they can land at least 1 top end arm plus a Jason Hammels type, they very well could be an 85+ win team which will at least put them in contention for post season play.

I wanted Morse too, but the Sox needed a LH bat rrrreeeeaaaaalllllllyyyyy bad. If LaRoche can do his usual .800+ OPS against RHP thing it's worth the while.

He has zero utility though, only can play 1st (or more often DH) and only knows how to hit righties.

Expensuve but at least he's younger than Abreu so he's a nice pick up in Hahn's youth movement.

Here's a guy who is just certain Rizzo is going to have a better career than a guy with 114 OPS+ after 11 seasons.

IMU is not an exception. He's the typical Cub fan. Please remember this when Sox fans point out the unrealistic expectations of MOST Cubs fans.

La Roche couldn't even sniff the big leagues until he was 25. Rizzo has parts of four seasons under his belt. Rizzo was maybe promoted too early the first time around...and it will hurt his career numbers a bit.

But LaRoche is nothing special for a first baseman. I'm seen Rizzo and the vast improvements he has made at a young age. There is nothing to indicate he won't have a very nice career.

This isn't Baez or Bryant. This is a guy proving it.

LaRoche has a better chance of having a better career than Jose Abreu. Abreu started older and has a much smaller sample size than Rizzo. Who knows what could happen...

7 sesasons with 25 and a gold glove left handed bat

Not a parade, but people are acting crazy, there is no reason to believe he'll be anything like Dunn was on the Sox

I don't really see trolling..... Rizzo will have a better career than Laroche. Doesn't seem hard to understand to me....

Nope. I don't judge guys like that. Baseball is a game of time and repetition. LaRoche has been a really good player. I find it unreasonable to expect an up and down guy like Rizzo to be better. He may be, but to expect it is silly. He looks very, very similar.

You feel as if you don't need to factor age in this at all? You're comparing a guy's age 21-24 seasons to the career of a guy that didn't even break into the majors until he was 25.

Baseball players usually don't peak until they've had a few seasons under their belt...and usually that peak comes in their late 20's.

I believe it is logical to expect Rizzo's upward trend to continue.

I think hitters in a normal environment (non-PED) gnerally peak at about 26-27. I think it's possible last year was the best year Rizzo will ever have. Maybe he'll have another season or two like it.

And LaRoche put up good numbers as a 24 year old playing pretty much full-time.

So I'm not accused later of twisting your words, can you explain this a little more?

Expecting his upward trend to continue puts him in some pretty elite company. You think he wins an MVP?

Seemingly good, low cost moves by the Sox, so far. They now have what should be one competent reliever in the bullpen and dramatically improved defense at first with a solid LH bat.

Does anyone know how Abreu feels about DH'ing?
