If the Bears dumped Cutler for a draft pick they'll also have to dump Forte and Marshall too.

Yikes! He's worst in just about every way. He is younger so there is a chance he will get better but he's already gotten $100M from the Lions and he's had the best WR for his entire career.

Yeah but its the same thing as rather having McCown run this offense instead of Cutler. I know he's not a better qb than Jay but he runs this offense better than him and thats all he has to better at . I think Stafford could do the same.

Good. This core is not winning a championship. The quicker we move on, the better.

There is no way you can get a fair return for Forte. They would be lucky to get a 4th round pick.

Ill give Forte a lot of credit ,he's busting his ass and still playing hard.

He's a pro and will likely finish the season with 100 catches and 2000 yards from scrimmage.

I don't think Cutler's contract is the worst on this Bears team right now.

Its not good, but its nowhere near the worst in Chicago sports history.

Where does the Adam Dunn signing rank with the worst contracts? I believe the Derrick "China Doll" Rose contract will show to be the worst ever.

Its up there, but honestly I think Danks is worse. Dunn's 2011 numbers kind of skew things, but in 12, 13, & 14 he was a solid run producer. Obviously nowhere near $50million worth and was below his early career numbers but he wasn't the black hole in the middle of the lineup that every one assumed he was. Danks has been hurt, bad, and has a very big contract. Its the trifecta of suck.

Its really a shame because I liked Danks a lot early on and thought the move to sign him long term was awesome. He has been one of the biggest disappointments in recent White Sox memory IMO.

I'm just glad the Sox jettisoned Gavin Floyd. That guy had potential but like Danks, would implode early and then never dig himself out of it.

Not everybody has soured on ol' Gavin. Kirkwood thinks he would be a great fit for the Cubs!

Cutler's contract isn't the worst, but it really puts the Bears in a terrible position going forward with any rebuild until he is no longer on the team. You can't even draft a quarterback in the first two rounds next year unless you truly are Theo'ing it up and saying that the Bears are going to suck for another 3 years.

The next time the Bears are Super Bowl contenders, Jay Cutler won't be on the team, so every season he is still here and they aren't looking for the next guy they are extending that another year.

Otherwise, they have to hope they hit that QB who is a later pick and ends up being a true franchise quarterback but that seems to happen league wide about once every 5 years.

Derrick Rose would be the worst right now I'd say.

Cutler's isn't half bad, the bears can cut and run after 3 years. Though right now franchising him would have looked significantly better. But they had to show him some love. He was a punching bag with J'Marcus Webb manning his blind side for 2+ years.......

Soriano's wasn't bad (but it wasn't ideal), and there's a lot of nonsense that comes along with it in terms of fan opinion. If the cubs didn't offer that, he would have gone elsewhere.

That, and in 2012-13 he averaged 33 HR, .260 average, and 100 RBIs. He was a leader of the clubhouse and provided great line up protection for Rizzo. After Sori went to the Yankees, Rizzo's average went from .250 to .233, as he mustered a .172 average. What more did you want out of the guy?

Ill disagree. He never produced to the numbers his contract warranted. He did ok but .265 25HR 80 RBI's isn't exactly what they paid for and the usurious impact it had on on the ability to make other moves is what makes it one of the worst ever.

Agreed. He was a good guy and was okay on the field but the Cubs overpaid for him to be great.

He averaged $16.6M over the course of the contract.

Russell Martin just got paid $16.4M per year.

.263 BA, .811 OPS, 28 HR per year... $16.6M covers that.

It isn't Soriano's fault it was cheapest during his best years, and most expensive at the end as he was slowing down.

But it isn't about whose "fault" it was. I don't blame Soriano for taking the contract. Doesn't change the fact that it was a horrendous contract.

It was 100% the Cubs fault. Soriano was an older, more injured version of the player he always was. He always had mental errors. He always watched his home runs. He always had poor plate discipline. And he always had one of the smoothest strokes ever that often led to home runs. Earlier in his career, he was much more of a speed threat, too. Soriano may have been close to worth that contract at one point in his career when he was younger and healthier, but the length of the contract made it terrible, and it ranks right up there as one of the worst in history.

Also, you can't compare football contracts (Wilson) to baseball. They are entirely different markets with entirely different contractual obligations.

But it wasn't.

The numbers he put up per season are respectable for $16.6M a season.

I meant Russell Martin.

What was his WAR?

I wondered when Wilson started making that much money. He's playing himself out of money this year.

Pablo Sandoval just signed for 5 years $90M. $18M per season.

Soriano's contract wasn't all that bad.

Knee Rose has the worst contract in Chicago sports history. And its not even close.

I think it's the worst in that most of us thought he wasn't very good, certainly not elite, and there was no need to sign him to the deal. They had the franchise tag option if they really wanted to give him one more chance to prove his worth.

At least with most of the other bad signings mentioned, there was a prior history that could somewhat (if barely) justify the contract. Soriano was coming off a 40/40 year, and Rose did end up with an MVP. Cutler convinced the Bears to pay him a ransom without having once (in eight years) broken a QB rating of 90, and also being very injury-prone. He did nothing to earn the contract. It just felt like the Bears were bidding against themselves.
