Has he become their best player overnight? I remember me and FavreFan talking about the Bulls would suck if they depended on him to score more than 13 points a game. He's averaging 20 and gets to the line with ease.

If only the Bears could have drafted as well as Pax has - in a league that is orders of magnitude more difficult to draft in.

Brooks will probably be the next beneficiary of Thibs magic.

I think Ive asked this question before but what is his offensive game? He's not a jump shooter right? He's dribble drive then? How is he all of the sudden scoring all these points when it looked before like he didn't have much offensively/ Ill hang up and listen for my answer.

Wonder what the cap ramifications are when he gets a huge offer sheet next year. I don't think the new TV money goes into effect for a couple years yet...

The kid is a worker with a much improved jump shot, is not afraid of contact and actually gives a shit.

Good for him.

Hope he gets a huge contract.

Last night he completely outplayed the guy who he'll want to get at least as much money as (Heyward).

Over the summer he developed an outside shot and he's can handle the ball better. He attacks the basketball and gets to the line a lot too.

offensively, his movement off the ball is key. he gets away from his defenders and its deadly those first couple moments after he catches a pass. he has also improved his long range shot so defenders always have to work hard to keep him in check on all areas of the floor. dont worry about hanging up, well do that for you. eeeYYYYEEEeeeeeYYYYYEEEEEEEE bob ROOOARMAN

thibodeau's literally a pimp if you think about it. he's getting these busted-ass "just a guy" players in and turning them into bonafide players, and in the case of nate robinson he got a freakin taco bell commercial out of it.

if you don't think that's dramatically increased their road pussy volume/quality, well then, i'm not the guy who still needs to get around to finally writing for "thibodeau's fleshlight: an intimate bulls blog" (problem is that i got bored with this d-rose iteration of the SUPER TRY-HARD BULLS halfway through the 11-12 season (when they skated to the best record in the east despite d-rose missing ~30 regular season games or whatever b4 blowing out his knee in the first round of the playoffs --- even with a healthy rose i had seen their ceiling reached in the 2011 ECF and yeah, [insert joke about how meaningless the NBA regular season is here], i was done)

but yeah TL;DR = thibodeau is a pimp. he gets these players made paid and laid in that particular order.... altho you have to wonder if there's also a ceiling as to how far he can take you in today's NBA not too dissimilar from the guy they effectively tried to replace, scott skiles. wasn't bernstein's prognosis that thibodeau is basically skiles with less of the redass/inevitable-burnout factor?

edit: i'd be remiss if i didn't point out that back around the time derrick was scheduled to make his first comeback from the first knee injury i said that in order to be a legit contender they'd need jimmy butler to turn into a bonafide 20+ ppg scorer because in order to win with a derrick rose lead team you need somebody decently into the 20s in terms of ppg to lead the bulls in scoring, cuz if derrick rose is your #1 scoring option (which he'll get to by str8up volume chucking. wasn't he hanging around 33% for most of comeback #1 before a few good shooting nights got him up to ~37% b4 he was wiped out for the year?) then you're not going anywhere. jimmy butler seems to want to be that 20+ppg guy so that's one criteria.... but then again i was assuming that derrick rose came back and was 75-85% of the 2010-11 MVP, and suffice to say that's not exactly happening right now is it? the only thing >we can hope for is that thibs is finally seeing the existential pointlessness of the NBA regular season and the organ-I-zation is playing it extra safe with derrick knowing that injury #3 could be strike 3 and he's out for good, so maybe both sides are going out of their way to take it extra cautious with derrick while we groan that he seemed to be fine for the USA team this summer, was pre-hurt entering the pre/season, then picked up a knock and was out, came back, pulled the hammy.... came back for a game and a 1/2 and now that hammy is tight again? yeap i'm hoping this is because everyone @ the bulls is going to take it RIDICULOUSLY easy with derrick, as opposed to him running from phantom injuries and all that.

I love Thibs and this Bulls roster but Thibs needs results in the playoffs.

If a healthy Bulls team goes into the playoffs and loses to the Wizards again,he might be tossed.

There is no chance in hell of that happening with Delicate Rose on your team.

Not quite overnight ... 'over-summer' apparently -

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/chicago-bulls-breakout-star-went-224200695.html

The Chicago Bulls are a solid 9-5 this season, despite Derrick Rose once again missing games with injuries.

Fourth-year wing Jimmy Butler has emerged as the Bulls' best player. Butler is posting career-highs of 20.8 points on 49.7% shooting with 5.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He's also playing an absurd 39 minutes per game.

Butler was ready for a breakout season this year. In a profile on Butler from Sports Illustrated's Ben Golliver, Butler said he went the entire summer without cable and Internet so he would be forced to work out more:

Butler and his friends rented a house for the summer so that they could spend time together, but he says he purposefully chose not to furnish it.

“I wanted to be so good at the game that we didn’t have cable, we didn’t have the Internet,” he recalled. “Whenever we got bored, all we would do is go to the gym. We’d eat, sleep and go to the gym. We’d go three times a day because we didn’t have anything else to do. We were sitting on the couch, looking at each other, saying, ‘What the hell are we going to do all day?'"

Butler struggled last season, shooting just 39% from the field, 28% from three-point range, and posting a 13.5 PER, which is below the league-average 15. Butler also played extended minutes last season — 38 per game — but says he wasn't physically right: “I was hurt, I was moving sluggishly, I was heavier.”

This season, Butler says he's down 12 pounds from last year after he had previously tried to bulk up to guard bigger players. His offseason regimen included 7 a.m.-to 8-p.m. days, lifting, running on the track, doing individual skills work, yoga, Pilates, and breaks for meals and a nap.

Butler will be a restricted free agent this summer after turning down a four-year, $40-million extension from the Bulls. At the rate he's going, he may very well trump that offer, thus dignifying a strict offseason.

one thing you definitely gotta give the guy is that "jimmy buckets" is a great sports nickname. "johnny football" is a little tryhard, but "jimmy buckets" is just right like the third bowl of bear porridge.

That's pretty cool. I guess if you're going to bet on yourself and turn down a pretty big contract , then that's the kind of dedication you need. Way he's going he will get double that money.

All non-Rose seasons have been write offs, jimmy. Once the team is stable then we can start looking at results.

LeBron James and Kyrie Irving have played more career minutes together (399) than Jimmy Butler and Derrick Rose (314).

Vegan was right there with you as well iirc.
That said, as one of the guys who was on the other side of that argument, I'd still be surprised if Butler ends the season above 17 ppg and 46% shooting.

Don't overpay for non-all stars. They need to let Butler walk if he wants $15 million a year.

 Yeah well this won't be the only time I'll underestimate a player. Obviously if he's your best player you can punch your ticket to the lottery, but he's developed into someone who could be maybe your third best player? I don't know.
