Felt like putting this in the DB section...

Just got the iPhone 6, and think the best thing about it is the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. However, I quickly found out that it has a flaw, designed intentionally by Apple apparently. When you hit on/off/sleep to turn off the display, you cannot give yourself a grace period of 1 minute (or 10 minutes etc.) to not have to re-enter the passcode or fingerprint. The only choice under "Require Passcode" is "Immediately." I have no idea why that is the case (considering that if you use the less-secure passcode option, instead of the Touch ID, you can select a period of time during which you do not have to re-enter). While the fingerprint sensor is quick, it's a pain to go back from a swipe on the screen to placing your finger on the home button each and every time. Slows things way down.

Apparently a lot of people have complained about this, and all you can do is leave feedback...and Apple states they read the feedback but "cannot respond to it." For a company that is the most valuable on planet earth (based on market cap of $700 billion), I'm amazed that they can get away with telling customers that they can't/won't respond individually to complaints.

I'm not amazed by anything. They've built an entire business from not caring about individuals versus the masses.

They're selling you simple, cookie cutter devices with little customization or personalization ability.

Apple is above the individual consumer. You need an Apple device - they don't need you to have one.

Jaw, do you have your workplace security software installed on it? Typically the devices get restricted like that from 3rd party software. It takes away options like delays in locking the device.

I'm down with this. Screw Apple. I can't believe the underpowered crap they sell at least as far as phones go has become as popular as it is now in this country.

Yes. Lots of BYOD policies you concede access to this kind of stuff. Airwatch, Absolute products etc.

No, apparently it's Apple's policy for the Touch ID feature. Bogus.

I heard that Google is trying to negotiate a deal with Supercell that provides Android users a 10% bonus to all resources gathered and obtained in raids.

hoping someone can help me with this, figured it probably didn't neeed its own thread so putting it here

long story short, I got an iphone 6 the other day
i had a 5 and lost it (hence getting the new one), but then found it
i last backed up the 5 a looooooooonnnngggg time ago. like probably more than a year
i'm talking about through itunes, i dont have a cloud accoutn set up

the 5 obviously has no service now. can i still back it up to itunes, then restore the new one from that backup ? my main objective is just getting all my pictures off the old phone. or is there another easier/better way to do it ?

I'm pretty sure that plugging in the old phone to any computer will let you mount it like a portable hard drive where you can find the pictures.

Also, the connection to your router should always work too even with no service. So you could email or upload to dropbox/google/onedrive but that would be slower. Your old iphone is basically an ipod touch now.

hmm, interesting as far as using it as a hard drive, i didn't know that. that would be pretty easy

yea the wifi still works so i could just email them, but i have somewhere around 500 pics, that would probably take quite a while i'd imagine.

I would just do a dropbox account if you don't already have one, and upload them via wifi. That might take an hour or so, but it would be pretty simple.
