The classic Bears move is letting a coach they want to fire stay a year longer than they would like to save money, then that producing a great season forcing them to sign him to an extension. That happened with both Lovie and Juron.

The Bears will sacrifice the D-Coordinator but nobody of repute will take the job with Trestman being in a "win or else" year. After Trestman is sent packing Emery will not hire a "name" coach or even one with NFL experience because that will lead to them expressing how they "did things in ____________." Bernstein's "sources" will give us some sort of 1/2 measure. Something could happen, something may happen, somebody may want to make a move, others may not. Nobody matter what happens, Bernstein reported it.

It is my belief that Pasqualoni was hired with this scenario in mind. He moves up to take the job nobody wants. His defense shows some improvement, the offense does as well. They squeak into the playoffs and the whole group gets extended.
