Called me. Wanting a donation.

They are a union. A union with a very bad reputation of trying to pose as a Illinois State Trooper organization.

A union calling people asking for money?

The guy on the phone sounded like he could be a klansman.

Filled it out now. Never looked into it before.

But do some unions actually try to increase incoming cash via donations? This is a thing?

You seem to think this is something new? I recall receiving such calls 30 years ago.

Here's the thing about those police calls. Sometimes they have no actual association with the cops at all. It may just be some goofs running a phone room. They "collect" for the police and then write a tiny check to whatever police association while using most of the money for "operations".

Regardless, I think cops do okay financially. Go buy your own bullet-proof vests.

Here's the pitch:

"And, you know, if you donate at the $25 level, we send you out a sticker for your car, so the guys will know who you are.

It's interesting how the support for unions suddenly disappears when it is the police who unionized.

Well, I would submit that there is a vast difference between a union in private industry and a public service union.

Interesting. So all non-private industry unions are bad?

I don't know if I would characterize them as "bad", but I'm not sure they should even be legal. I believe at one time they were not. The point of a union is to give a collective voice to workers to counterbalance the power held by management. In a public sector union, what is being counterbalanced?

What time and where are we protesting? I assume CHUS will be the spokesperson as he knows who the racists are and isnt what this is really about? What exactly do we want out of this protest?

If we dont get the propert attention we desire, are we in agreement to do some serious vandalism and looting?

May I suggest the 3000 N Clark area, they have some nice stuff in the window at Sports Authority.

They called me again; I told them I hadn't sent in the donation and wouldn't be, as they are a union.

"We're not a union."

"The meta keywords of your website that Google recognizes: 'The Illinois Council of Police Members is a union of law enforcement professionals & officers in Illinois.'"

"... we're not a union. We're a non-profit organiz...."

"The About Us on your website: 'What makes the Illinois Council Of Police (ICOPs) different from other organizations that have members who are law enforcement officers? ICOPs is a Union of law enforcement professionals, run by law enforcement officers with the experience, know-how and commitment to get the job done. Our Legal Plan is the best protection available to Police Officers in Illinois. You get immediate backup with the ICOPs Legal Plan, which is open to all law enforcement personnel whether or not they are under an ICOPs contract.'

"... you should learn to honor your commitments in the future."

"Okay, bye."

that sticker is worth the money, at least to buy once

just vett the guys youre donating to. make sure at least half goes to the cops

when i was 16 those stickers saved me a lot of greif. i had it placed on my drivers window, so it was the first thing they saw. of course it didnt make up their minds on anything, but it was a good ice breaker and it did change the cops first impression of me, which is worth gold.

Thats the rumor, that the sticker on your car gets you out of a speeding ticket, or moving violations. So does not speeding or driving well.

I have heard some cops say that they go the other way when they see a sticker like that. They think you are trying to hide something.

Yeah - at this point the only folks who put that on their car are folks hoping to get out of a ticket by displaying it.

Also...stickers and decals are terrible. I'm pissed I had to get an AH city sticker.
