There was a guy in line at Naperville that wouldn't shut up about beer, or anything else.

The topic of Surly Darkness came up. I said that I got one, but I was going to trade it to my buddy for a 3 Floyd's Darklord, any year I want. He tells me not to do it, because the Surly will fetch more in a trade. I explained that I was doing this as a solid for my buddy, who was unable to get one. He has a very impressive stash of beer, and he always shares them with me. In fact, he will probably crack the Darkness when I am there, anyway.

At 8:50, an employee of Binny's announced that we could get 2 bottles of the BCBS, 1 coffee, 1 barleywine, and our choice of bomber. I told my buddy (different guy than the one with the huge stash, this guy is a bowling teammate) that I was going to get the Vanilla. This hipster doofus tells me not to do it. I should get the Coconut, because that will bring back more in a trade. I told him that I wasn't trading these, and that they were going under my bar to age, until my wife and I open them. I told him that I have 2 coconuts from last year, and my wife doesn't like coconut anyway. At this point, he finally shut the fuck up.

He must have told me ten times that he just finished working a 48 hour shift. He was also constantly exhaling his e-cig right into my face. I really wanted to give this guy a shot to the ribs.

I go to that Binny's all the time, and I smoke an e-sig.

Do you live in Dekalb?

I did at one time.

Had some Velvet Merlin. That was pretty good. We don't get Firestone Walker down here so my wife picked some up for me at Binnys in Oakbrook.

Picked up a case of Not Your Father's Root Beer tonight. My dad is a bigfan, so I will probably share some with him.

Also made a nice beer run on Sunday on my way up to Michigan to visit a client. Stopped at 3 Floyds, Bells, and Founders.

Was anyone able to get any BCS last Friday? I got a four of the regular, the Proprietor, Vanilla, the barley wine and coffee...great stuff! Did some trading with some of it.

Edit, miss a little, miss alot.

Did you land any of the 10.7% bombers? I scored six of em, but traded half away.

Also, not looking back through all of this, but has anyone ever had EPIC Brewing's BIG BAD BAPTIST? Great Imperial Stout...barrel aged.

Had this for the first time at Sheffield's about a month ago. Went really well with the BBQ. I bought it at Binny's and used half a bottle to marinate some bone-in NY strips. Pretty damn good.

The ancho chile gave it a really nice finish without being overpowering. Anyone else ever have this or one of 5 Rabbits' other brews?

What's the best Christmas/Winter ale available right now?

How is the Anchor Christmas brew this year? Good?

The best one I've found is Great Lakes Christmas Ale. Trader Joe's makes a good one as well, but I haven't seen it out yet, which tells me they aren't doing it this year.

Bought some of the 5 lizard Friday. Meh. Adam Carolla would hate it because it has passion fruit as one of the main ingredients.

Here's why I'm a marketer's wet dream: the bottle lists the ideal temperature for it to be for maximum enjoyment. While I didn't follow that, I did in fact pour it in a tumbler, per their recommendation, instead of being a savage and enjoying it straight out of the bottle. Because they told me I should...

I never drink out of the bottle. Snifters are my go-to glasses. I do, however, leave beers in the can. I think they're better that way, but never out of a bottle.

I will pour most beers (except for shitty ones) into my snifters. Pint glass is can't grab another.

I'm also normally drinking IPA so I want the citrus smells.

Tried some new (to me) beer over the past week:

White Lion Pale Ale (Springfield, MA): Crisp and fruity with a nice orange hue, this pale ale drinks more like an IPA than a pale ale. Good session beer.

Evil Twin Femme Fatale Yuzu IPA (Westbrook Brewing, South Carolina): Nice orange-gold color, good solid head. Tastes reminiscent of grapefruit, kiwi, red dots, used bandages, and necrotic flesh. If you've ever had cannibalistic urges, this may be the beer for you. Recommended for beer snobs looking to challenge their palates and fledgling sociopaths developing a fantasy space built around free fire zones and immense carnage.

Stone Anniversary IPA: This is a "brown" IPA that tastes more like a brown ale than an IPA. Very malty and boozy at the end. Not recommended.

Pretty Things Beer Project Double IPA (Somerville, MA): Deficient in the piney and citrus fruit abrasiveness I was expecting. Not particularly memorable. Average beer.

I don't think Mastermind quite measures up to some of the other touted Vermont IPAs, but Hodad was amazing and I kick myself for only buying a single 4-pack the one time I was there when cans were available.

It's fruity as hell for a DIPA. Not quite as dank as heady and the like, but still a delicious beer.
