I think Zimmerman would be the target. It seems he already is based on the earlier trade rumors.

Sure, but seeing as Jordan throws with the other hand, some teams will always prefer Price

If the Cubs get Lester, they wouldn't need a lefty.

Johnny Cueto is going to have a say in things too. Dude's pitched his ass off in a bandbox. One of the big spenders would love to have him at the top of their rotation.

Could just be strategically placed info:

TomLoxas @TomLoxas · 4m 4 minutes ago
At least one AL club believes Cubs and Lester are close to a deal.

TomLoxas @TomLoxas · 2m 2 minutes ago
Sounds like Cubs are denying. Yet, seems to be some industry smoke.

Pardon me but I'm not really convinced that Lester is the be all end all even if the Cub get him.

I don't think you'll find anyone suggesting that, unless I'm misunderstanding your point.

He's a very good starter. That's fine.

Lester, Arrieta and Hendricks would be a nice base for the rotation

Agree, its a good part and I want him here, but he himself is setting the price of poker and better understand that if he prices himself as a savior, then he can perform as one.

He is not setting the price at this point. Not even remotely.

He wont.

But if he's as good as he's been the last few years, that'll do

Right, I mean everyone agrees he is going to get overpaid. That's how free agency works. And as the Cubs, you're willing to overpay even more because the alternatives involve giving up a pick, or multiple prospects. He's going to be overpaid, period.

I know bigfan knows this buy no ONE guy is a savior. Barry Bonds never won a World Series. Mike Trout didnt save the Angels from The Royals

Then I think his argument is that guys who get paid alot should be good at what they do. It's a strong take, but I tend to agree.

I'm just getting that feeling now. Red Sox have an ass load of excess OF to grab Hamels and another guy, Lester really isn't the Giants M.O., the Yankees seem to be sitting this offseason out so no giant pile of money ruining everything... the road is paved for the Cubs.

But I have nothing concrete.

Never mind, he'll be in pinstripes. That sucks a little for the Cubs because Ricketts won't pony up Yankee dough.

I'm cautiously optimistic they land him.

Then go get Shields too!

Reports would now have you believe the Yankees, Dodgers and Angels are all involved. My guess is at least two of those are a lie, and that the price is being driven up for the Cubs or sox.

Didn't Dummy say the Yankees made Lester an offer? I haven't seen that reported anywhere else.

Agree, but for the money and the wait (Lester and the Cubs) there will be high expectations right away.

IMHO the Cubs should walk away and get the next ace. This thing and numbers has regret all over it.

Well according to RPB Max Scherzer is going to make $38M a season. Lester may be the bargain bin option.

Yea, and one of the major guys shot it down. Said way more likely they would be in on Max.

@Ken_Rosenthal: Source confirms #Dodgers have strong interest in Lester. First reported by @WEEI.
