This is one of the most intense movies I've seen in a long time. Takes some suspense of disbelief because there are things that happen that are hard to believe logistically and practically but the performance by Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the best of his career.

His character is hypocritical, a liar and thief who comes off as intellectual and precise...but it's an act. he's obsessively driven but not is corrupt.

the plot is basically that he becomes interested in "nightcrawling", a freelance enterprise that involves shooting crime footage and submitting work to local news stations. i really didn't know much about this...i always thought the camera team belonged to the news station and i didn't really think a freelancer would be able to get much without being arrested or kicked out of the scene.

the lengths that his character goes through to get footage becomes increasingly sociopathic...and again, hard to believe he can pull it off. but the climax of the ending is exhilarating.

:D :D :D out of :D :D :D :D

This movie does look inneresting but I really do not care for Jake Gyllenhaal. He's got a face I want to cauterize. However, he can actually act, unlike his dopey-faced, untalented sister.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't get nominated for a best actor award at one of the lesser award ceremonies, if not an Oscar nod itself.
He was incredible in this, and like WZ said, one of the most intense films I, too, have seen in a long time.
It was awesome.
:D

Just saw this a couple of weeks ago, as it's now on Netflix. I loved this film. Gyllenhaal's character is an all-timer sociopathic creep, played pretty much flawlessly.

Been waiting for this one to show up on one of my movie channels. I just recently taped Birdman on HBO but haven't watched it yet.

This guy claims to be the inspiration for the Gyllenhaal character:

Great call, watched it on the train last week. Also nice to see Bill Paxton reprise his role as Chet from Weird Science.

I'm watching this now. Gyllenhaal is amazing in this. Comes off as a total creep. Russo looks rode hard and put away wet in this. Music was a bit odd though. Didn't ever really fit.

Damnit I was hoping you did. You could have been king of the hipsters and ran them all off a cliff.
