You mean get paid for an 8 hour day but only work 2 of them?

You have got to be fucking kidding me.

Maybe you know harder working union workers than I've known. Or seen. Or have heard about.

And then we have the great UAW that destroyed auto manufacturing in the U.S.

I'm a union pipefitter.
I only get paid hours I work. I work at least 9 to 10 hours a day this time of year... and will until April or so. I work nights. I work weekends. Last night I was on call and got called out twice. Once around 6 and once again around 11 pm.
I don't get a lunch hour. I try to find time to eat a sandwich I brought from home between calls. I don't get breaks. When I'm installing a system I'll work 8 hours straight with maybe one 15 minute break.
The plumbers and electricians I work with work like I do. The other fitters I know from other areas work like I do.

I work my ass off. Everyone at my company does. Once again, I believe you speak from a position of ignorance. Something tells me I work a lot harder than you do. And so do my brothers.

My favorite is the union guy who "wants to talk to you", you know thats going to work out well for you.

I believe IMU's views are informed by the draconian bullshit that goes on with unions at McCormick Place, which even you should be able to admit has taken things a bit too far at the expense of the city.

Perhaps. But that hardly represents "unions" as a whole. If that's the extent of his experience, he should understand that he is woefully inexperienced in such matters.
And yeah I take umbrage at the implication that we're lazy and work 2 hours a day. I work my ass off.

My department is the only non-union department at our plant. Most of the people I work with are freakishly lazy, avoiding anything resembling work, including what appears as common courtesy (wipe up your own spilled coffee, cuntswab).

That said, when it comes to actually doing work, we make the union departments appear as bad as IMU's vision.

As an elder-statesman type, unwilling to accept the pressure of a supervisory promotion in my own department, I am amazed they have offered me a position as supervisor in the union departments. I cannot imagine much more difficult position to be in than the lowest level, non-union supervisor of union workers.

I dont know if its the unions fault that American cars are inexplicably designed to kill whoever is driving them.

Also, I desperately miss that inflatable rat the one local shop rolls out when some asshole decides to go non-union with their tuckpointing. You know how many other cities in the USA have that? NONE. THATS IDENTITY KIDS.

Cubs going back to board to remove one sign and make the video board smaller. All in hopes of getting a landmark designation and a $75M tax credit.

Thanks.

Okay - sounds like very minor changes. The larger, main video scoreboard is retaining its size. The secondary one is getting reduced some unknown amount, and then moved farther into the right field corner. No problems there.

Couldnt they solve the "sight-line" problems by just putting video screens on the back of all the new signage? It would actually probably improve the rooftop experience. Lawsuit problems solved.

Wintrust is a huge bank, but has a business focus like MB Financial.

They are rapidly expanding in the Chicago area. My company works with them often.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Commission on Chicago Landmarks will consider several changes Thursday that the Chicago Cubs made to their Wrigley Field renovation plan in exchange for possible federal tax credit worth up to $75 million.

The deal with the National Park Service would alter the dimensions and placement of video boards and other signs in order to not encroach on the historic manual center-field scoreboard and the ballpark's view of the neighborhood, the Chicago Sun-Times reported (http://bit.ly/1BgW1TN ).

Cubs spokesman Julian Green said the deal with park service would put the team on track to receive tax credits. It could earn Wrigley a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.

"We wouldn't be eligible to receive those dollars until after the project is finished. But, the credit represents tens of millions of dollars that could be used to help fund the project. Given the scope of this project, we believe Wrigley Field qualifies for those dollars," Green said.

Specifically, the changes to the renovation plan include eliminating a 650-foot sign in left field and swapping locations of a video board and a 650-foot sign in right field. The right-field video board would 200 feet smaller — 2,200 square feet — and the left-field video board would move 30 feet closer to the center-field scoreboard.

Separately, the Cubs announced a long-term partnership with Wintrust Financial Corp. on Wednesday, which will include a sign above the new left field video board.

The work is part of the Cubs' privately funded $575 million renovation project.

Yeah, I am pretty much ok with it. It'll be different but if it's going to happen then I
don't think what they have done looks bad and will help make the park a bit more fan
friendly.

That's a good deal when you do less construction and have the government pay you to do less construction. I wonder what kind of tax credit I can wrangle for never intending to build anything in the first place.

Good question. I don't know what was fan-hostile about sitting in a chair and watching people play a game of baseball.

Are we supposed to believe that Cubs logo on the light tower is going to be a Cubs logo and not a corporate logo? Same with "Wrigley Field" on the video board. Fuckin' we know where we are and who plays here. It's gonna be a bitch to sit in the grandstand down the right-field line and sit next to some piece of giant humming fluorescence making you aware of a gas station you already see ten times a day anyway.
