Anyone watch this show? It's the damn goofiest show and I somehow find it brilliant and hilarious. Some of James Spader's closing argument scenes are the best law show scenes ever on TV. They seem to bring new regular characters on every season without really losing a beat. As long as there is face time for Spader and Shatner, the show should keep on chuggin along. I think it's better than it's predecessor The Practice.

Havent seen it but 3-5 years ago or so, I used to be obsessed with a show called Boston Public, one of the most engrossing TV shows I have ever watched(excluding the Wire)

Yes, Boston Public is from the same creator as Boston Legal (David E. Kelley). I'd say Boston Legal is the law version of Public, but is probably even more adult themed. You'd definitely like this show then.

Ill make it a point to check it out then. I never really watch anything besides Politics and Sports save a few shows, so it would be nice to add something else to the mix.

i guess i should just leave this alone, but I can't mention enough my loathing of David E Kelley. The most self anointed one-liner writer of all time. I've always wanted to tell him..."Just because a woman spouts off a good comeback doesn't make her a strong character. Please melt all your Emmys down so that all that metal can be made into something useful."

ok i'm done you can go back to your conversation... :)

I like your analysis of this stuff Zach. I tend to think of shows/movies for what they provide in entertainment value. Your perspective from a technical or writers standpoint is interesting.

z, you're right on. you could add the writers of desperate housewives, grey's anatomy, and sex and the city to that list. each one of those shows are complete garbage. also, i may be in the minority on this board, but i think entourage is a bad show as well.

I liked it before this most recent season, but now I think I'm done with it. The last batch of episodes was pure garbage.

And I'm having a similar gag reflex with Weeds. Really enjoyed the first 2 seasons. So far, season 3 has been a major dropoff.

i think i said those exact words on some thread a while back... :) that, "family guy", and "scrubs" are three shows that i cannot explain my disdain for...but i have much of it. i wouldn't say they're bad quality, there are just things about each that don't do it for me at all.

I've never liked Entourage, and only the very early Family Guys are funny- the gags got old VERY quickly. "hey, this is like the time that <insert pop culture/ironic/obscure reference here> HAHAHAHA! Scrubs I disagree about though, if for nothing else than John McGinley is hilarious. I could see why you might not like it though.

I cannot watch any Simpsons made in the last decade without getting really angry at how horrible the show has become; the Simpsons has one of the biggest disparities between good and bad episodes of any TV show in history. Unfortunately, by this point the bad outnumber the good by 2 or 3 to 1. I always hated Friends. Sex and the City is an abomination and an affront to everything I believe about entertainment and culture.

Entourage is the male version of Sex and the City.
The the writing and the acting in both shows is terrible, and generally the plot lines revolve around a one liner.
For me, Ari's & Samantha's shock value is the only reason to watch either show.

here. fucking. here.

8-10 are still pretty entertaining but after 12, it REALLY fell off. my god. it's PAINFUL to watch the new episodes. and fox continues to rerun them just to piss us off.

I'd need to look at an episode list to pinpoint exactly where the decline occurred, but 8-10 seems about where the show really headed downhill. I'll make that my homework assignment.

Great episodes from season 8:

Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment- Rex Banner

Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala (Annoyed Grunt) cious- Sherry Bobbins

A Milhouse Divided- one of the best episodes of the entire run, IMO. "Can I Borrow a Feeling?"

The Canine Mutiny- I still fill out registraton forms online with the name "Santos L. Halper"

The Homer They Fall- The Brick Hithouse, the Immovable Object, and the Southern Dandy...

You Only Move Twice- Scorpio

Season 9:

Lisa the Skeptic- the Angel episode

Bart Carny- 'It's a ring toss game"

The Joy of Sect- "Leader leader leader leader Lee-der!"

King of the Hill- one of the better "dream" sequences where a Yetti is carring him up the mountain, among other things.

Season 10:

....uh...hmmm....

Compare this to season 4

Quote:
Kamp Krusty - For the summer, Bart and Lisa get to go to Kamp Krusty, but one
they get there they discover it's a living hell.

A Streetcar Named Marge - Marge tries out for the starring role in A Streetcar
Named Desire. Though the producer rejects her at first, he gives her the role
upon discovering she is deeply depressed.

Homer The Heretic - Homer skips church one week, and after having such a
great time at home, decides never to go back.

Lisa The Beauty Queen - Lisa places second in a beauty contest, but by default
becomes the new Little Miss Springfield.

Treehouse Of Horror III - A Krusty doll tries to kill Homer, A King Kong parody,
and Bart reviving zombies are the three stories in this season's Halloween
special.

Itchy And Scratchy: The Movie - Bart fails to look after Maggie, and she takes
the car, crashing it. As a punishment, Homer forbids Bart to ever see the new
Itchy and Scratchy movie.

Marge Gets A Job - When the Simpson home takes damage, Marge must take a
job with Homer at the nuclear plant to pay for it.

New Kid On The Block - A teenage girl moves into a home near the Simpsons
and Bart falls in love with her.

Mr. Plow - At a car convention, Homer buys a snow plow and uses it to become
a local hero.

Lisa's First Word - While wondering when Maggie will speak her first words,
Homer and Marge tell the story of when Lisa spoke hers.

Homer's Triple Bypass - Homer begins to have heart problems, and shops
around for the cheapest surgeon.

Marge Vs. The Monorail - Springfield uses its newly-obtained three million
dollars to build a monorail.

Selma's Choice - When Homer gets too sick to take Bart and Lisa to a new
amusement park, Selma takes them instead. They raise hell there.

Brother From The Same Planet - Bart begins to hate Homer, and gets a new
father figure from a local non-profit organization. Meanwhile Homer uses the
same organization to get a new son.

I Love Lisa - When Lisa shows pity for Ralph on Valentine's day, he falls in love
with her.

Duffless - When his driver's license is revoked for drunk driving, Homer must
give up beer.

Last Exit To Springfield - The power plant attempts to do away with its dental
plan. Homer fights to save it because Lisa is in need of braces.

So It's Come To This: A Simpsons Clip Show - Bart shakes up a beer can in a
paint mixer, and when Homer opens it the explosion hospitalizes him. The family
then recounts past experiences.

The Front - Bart and Lisa write a series of Itchy and Scratchy cartoons under
Grampa's name.

Whacking Day - Bart is expelled from school. Soon enough he and Lisa try to do
away with a very awkward town holiday.

Marge In Chains - Marge accidentally forgets to pay for an item at the local
convenience store and must spend a month in jail.

Krusty Gets Kancelled - A new puppeteer steals Krusty's ratings. He becomes increasingly desperate for ways to stay on the air.

Every one of those, with the exception of the Halloween episode and the clip episode, is excellent.

Good ones from later on that I can remember:

The Missionary Episode
The Medicinal Marijuana Episode
um...I need to think about this.

Season 10 had some good ones:

"The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace" - Homer tries to be like Thomas Edison

"When You Dish Upon a Star" - Homer stays with Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. Ron Howard is pretty funny in this one too.

"Homer Simpson in 'Kidney Trouble'" - Homer has to give grandpa a kidney and chickens out at the last second, joining the lost souls ship until they kick him off.

"Mayored to the Mob" - Homer becomes Quimby's bodyguard.

"Viva Ned Flanders" - Homer and Ned to go Vegas and while drunk accidentally marry a couple of chicks.

"Sunday, Cruddy Sunday" - the Super Bowl episode. Fred Willard. And nostalgia. Madden and Summerall.

"Homer to the Max" - Homer is used as a cool guy character on a TV show till the ratings suck and they turn him into a bumbling idiot so Homer changes his name to Max Power.

"Maximum Homerdrive" - Homer becomes a truck driver after an eating contest leaves the original driver dead.

"They Saved Lisa's Brain" - Lisa becomes a part of Mensa.

And probably the best episode of that season..."Thirty Minutes over Tokyo" - The Simpsons go to Japan.

After that, the next few seasons had a few good episodes but as a season they were bad. And then got worse.
