Theo Epstein and Jon Lester going to Chicago has unfortunately (for my family and friends) made me re-think about my allegiances.

I miss rooting for the things that make baseball great. Baseball Stadiums, Hot Dogs, Beer and the joy of rooting for your team to win. The Chicago Cubs are baseball at its roots.

In Chicago, baseball is still baseball. Up here in Boston, baseball is business, and business sucks when all they care about is tv ratings, revenue and raking every possible penny out of the fans.

I look forward to becoming a fan with all of you.

I have a couple questions...
1. How would you rate the fans in Chicago are in comparison to the Boston fans in terms of baseball IQ?
2. What do I need to know about this forum?
3. I've been doing my due dilligence, but what other resources are available to me to find out the "who's who" in the organization? I've been looking over baseball reference, but sometimes there are other resources available.

Thank you,

The Cubs just fired a good man in the name of business and are destroying their park for a few extra sheckels. I think Chicago baseball is business too.

If you choose to be a White Sox fan, welcome aboard.

If you choose to be a Cubs fan, piss off and go back to your frat house 'bro.

If you remain in that group that believes a choice between the two does not need to be made, I hope you are damned to eternally chasing something you can never identify while being stung by wasps while worms drink your blood.

Peter Tago.

He was a first round pick of the Rockies in 2010. It cost the Sox 12K to pick him up and if he sticks in AAA or above they won't have to give him back to the Rockies. He'll probably be targeted as a reliever as he throws in the mid 90's. SOunds like another Don Cooper reclamation project.

Slightly above league average production out of the catcher position for the White Sox last year.

The Dodgers have designated SS/2B Erisbel Arruebarrena for assignment.

25 year old(ish) Cuban defector. He has 4 yrs/$16M left on his contract. Real good glove questionable bat. Could be an option at 2B.

The White Sox have agreed to a 1/yr/$4M contract with Emilio Bonifacio.

May have wanted another reliever if $4M was laying around? I don't know

So who is on the wish list for Sox fans?

I would think, other than a completely new bullpen, they would want to look at Denard Span, Melky Cabrera, Nick Markakis, Emilio Bonerface, Micheal Cuddyer, and Russell Martin.

I think any (all) of those guys would be an upgrade over what the Sox have.

I guess Hahn had some similar thinking.

Bonifacio is a great super sub. He was good as a Cub...he would be excellent serving a utility role on a good team.

very good splits against LHP which should make him a perfect platoon with Gillaspie.

The price for that role seems rather high.

I think he's fine as a utility guy. The reaction from Sox fans shows their general negativity as opposed to Cub fans who seemed to like the guy and thought they could get a good return in prosepcts by flipping him. He went to Atlanta, right? Did the Cubs get anything of note for him?

Cubs fans were happy b/c last year he was given a minor league deal, earned a major league spot at a $2.5M salary. He netted a middling catching prospect Caratini.

That would be ok but I don't think they're going to use him in that role. I think he's the everyday second baseman. I guess it's better than giving Stephen Drew $10M but Bonifacio is not an everyday player. I was hoping if they went out and got a second baseman it would be an upgrade over what they already have.

I don't believe that's the case. I think he's insurance in case the in-house candidates at second can't cut it. At some point you have to give the guys in your system a shot. That said, I'd like to see a deal for Zobrist.

No, it doesnt.

Signing a player to a minor league deal at the league minimum is not equal to what the Sox did.

Also, Two cub fans commented on the signing when the Cubs made it.

One said "not bad for the league minimum, might be able to flip him to a desperate team" (exactly what happened btw)

another said "i like the move"
