guys are desperate to climb on this bandwagon

Cubs only had to overpay by $20 million to get a guy to feel comfortable signing with them.

I don't think it was the $20M as much as the animated video of him on the mound winning the 7th game of the WS. That really put it over the top.

curious how out of nowhere Jerry started spending? I guess it has nothing to do with the potential "tidal wave of Cub popularity" he sees coming. That term from the great Steve Stone.

Rios, Dunn, Peavy, Konerko. All of those guys are gone. All of those guys were making big bucks. Jerry has always spent.

Except for about an 18 month stretch in 2005 and 2006, The Cubs have always been more popular than the Sox, so I don't know what you or Steve Stone is talking about.
