I'm pretty sure if he tried that, he would land into a world of depression and eventually ritualistically kill 17 people.

Might be worth it.

Dammit, I should have put that in my sabbatical application.
However, that would have been a full year and not only a semester.

At first blush, the owners are too insulated and are the classic 'born into money/won the genetic lottery' stereotype so they don't know how to actually work. Emery was making too many margin calls (the old defense will be fine, Jared, Jay) that failed.
The real shame is that i thought Emery was onto something with the advanced stats in football, but I think the team will not look at that again for a while.

I'm not optimistic as a fan, now I'm not 'rooting for the blackhawks in 2003 pessimistic,' but I am 'Chicago Bears in 1997' pessimistic. So maybe the bears are will make the playoffs again in four years.

Somebody asked Michael Silver on twitter to name his Bears sources on the Cutler benching:

"Name your source” never ever ever ever ever. And I have 15 of them on this"

15? This is an historic train wreck of a season.

Did anyone ask Trestman about those plays? If in fact Cutler changed them to runs, he should be strung up by the balls.

Those plays cost me my fantasy playoff game. I lost by 1 point. That's it I am burning my Cutler jersey.

Shefter was on CSN. Said the Bears could probably get a 4th rounder for Cutler that could be a 3rd rounder if he meets performance stipulations.

So, ya know what? It was a good move to sign him. Cuz if you tagged him then we would have got nothing for him. He would have walked, obviously, as they wouldn't bring him back.

The other team takes on his salary. No actual dollars lost for the McCaskey's. It's only a 4 million dollar cap hit cuz of his bonus he got this year (Not too bad when you consider his actual salary will be off the books so you get that money to spend - 16 million or so).

So if he's traded, it worked out fine.

All this bitching about "HOW COULD THEY DO THIS" would be wrong. Cuz signing him is gonna get them a 4th rounder (Maybe a 3rd) where tagging him would have got them nothing.

Would like to see him gone but this article makes it seem like he must be traded.

Guaranteed base salaries make a player virtually uncuttable. If the Bears wanted to cut Cutler this offseason, they wouldn’t save a dime on his $16.5 million cap figure. In fact, since they’ve already restructured the deal once (converting part of Cutler’s 2014 base salary into a bonus), the remaining bonuses on the deal would accelerate onto Chicago’s 2015 cap, meaning the Bears would owe Cutler $19.5 million to not play for them. Even if they’re wildly frustrated with Cutler, that’s not going to happen.

Trading a player like that, though, wouldn’t be a problem. The Bears could deal Cutler, and the base salaries would become the responsibility of the new team. Chicago would only have the $4 million from that restructuring bonus accelerate onto its 2015 cap, meaning it would save $12.5 million in 2015 without owing Cutler a penny more in 2016 and beyond.

I think you're wrong. Jets, Titans, Cardinal and Rams. At least one, if not all would do it. Only takes one. Now, these teams might like the Oregon or Florida St. QBs. But it's those two college QBs and Cutler. That's all the options for teams that want a starter. The rest of the NFL free agents are worse than Cutler.

Put it this way. Cutler will be starting in the NFL next year. There aren't 30 better. So it's either for the Bears or he's traded cuz they will not cut him.

This is a big deal and its not common at all to bench a veteran starter

Jets & Titans both have a chance to get the 1st or 2nd overall draft pick, & either Mariota or Hundley would both be better prospects than Cutler. I don't think either Arians or Fisher would think that Cutler is the ticket to the Super Bowl.
There will be limited interest in Jay Cutler.

There are still salary cap penalties next year, and they paid more this year than they would have by a considerable margin, and it was impossible for them to draft a quarterback in the high rounds last year because of it. That fourth round pick still comes at a cost.

The correct way to say it is that if they get a fourth round pick from Cutler that the contract was less wrong.

And how many times have I been saying that for the last 5 years here. They are fucked up people and it becomes a fucked up team. Just the fact they allow it to get this bad shows yu what kind of people they are. They are your neighbors that keep the curtains closed and every ince in a while glance outside, other than that, they dont come outside and dont know anyone else on the street!

You are wrong. Again.

You are right, bigfan. The past ~150 days has shown that the Bears are an absolute train wreck from top to bottom. It is not all Cutler, Trestman, Philips, McCaskeys, Defense, Tucker...etc. They all have their part. They are all to blame. Its fucking depressing.

They had a fucking MRSA outbreak for fucks sake. Freeman missed the team photo because he overslept. Schiano leaked confidential info regarding Freeman's participation into the NFL's Drug Program.

This is nowhere close to the Bears.

The best thing you can say about this season is that no one has been murdered or committed suicide yet.

True. Also a Bear hasn't raped anybody, beat a kid, or punched a woman yet (that we know of).

There are still two games to go though...

Ya, I'm going to go with the team that had infections ruin player's careers and whose coach intentionally torpedoed the career of his franchise QB.

But it's the Bears. That makes the stakes higher. Jacksonville can rattle off all these 2-win seasons and no one cares because it's just Jacksonville.

The Jailblazers of the early 2000s were much more dysfunctional then this Bears team.
