WOW

The shit would hit the fan! Never heard so many media outlets reporting this story with warnings about the source!

I even have people on Twitter sending me DM asking abut it, I clarified it is eing "Master of the Obvious". I think trestman is gone, but this guy is reporting it as if it is a fact.

I felt like Terry did this once and had to go to bat for his lie too?

Today Ranger wasn't saying "Likely" in the updates.

Ranger was saying "Our Dan Bernstein is reporting that Trestman will be fired at the end of the season." Leaving no room for any doubt. Dan never corrected him.

He'll catch national heat. Every time he has something on twitter, national reporters will point out how he got this one wrong.

Mitch Rosen won't say a word to him. Bernstein won't care. Cuz it won't cost him money or his job.

Bernsetin will simply say "I'm told the McCaskey's got in a room and changed their minds." Boers will say "Yep". Drinky will still be stupid. Tanny will still blow up callers. And they will carry on, hand in hand, the four of them, to the next episode. Sing it, boys!!!

Yep. That's how it will go.

It is very strange how the Score doesn't seem to be standing behind its "reporter", instead hanging bernstein out there on his own.

It does not matter. There are no repercussions. They are not journalists with either an ethical or legal level to adhere to. They can throw shit against a wall as much as they want. And in reality twitter and blogs picking it up means nothing.

Dan likes to act as if he is above it all and all the other meatball writers, even though his "Senor" columns really suck, but every media guy is this town would take shots as Mr Perfection.

Of course nothing legal, just thrown back in his face for the next.....23 years by so many people, including so many at the Score.

And why didn't little Danny get that Clausen will start on Sunday - is it that his source only wanted a piece of the story - that his management source - a McCaskey or someone else who hobnobs with little Danny and the wife - to come out? Is it that Dan, after all, isn't reporter, and just a cocktail party listener (aka whore)?

Good point. Dan should have been all over this one.

Dan's arrogance on this report and the reaction from co-workers....echoes his own tweet about a certain QB that is NOT playing Sunday.

Dan Bernstein @dan_bernstein · 10h 10 hours ago

Cutler has made few friends, at any level of these bizarre #Bears. He never cared to build capital, which makes him now an easier pawn.

This one will be different, because other media people will be talking about him, not by name, but using the term CBS and meaning Danny... and he knows it.

if he is wrong, i think more people will be outraged that this idiot is still employed and that halas hall is fine with status quo to even worry about some idiot's "likely to be fired comment" from 3 weeks earlier

Talk about being at cross-purposes: you now have Bears fans who are rooting for the team to fail so that they can fire Trestman, but also hoping for Trestman to be retained so that Dan Bernstein can look bad. What a mess.

Not sure about the employment, but Danny would get a meatbal card for it.

Just wonder what the Mccaskeys think about their communications guy...because if it is true, that means that everything gets leaked and if it isnt true to the guy cant control the message. Either way, I would fire Scott Hagel on Monday too. can find 1000's of guys to do that job.

I'm pulling for Clausen. The media are so dug in on Trestman being terrible (which he is) that it'd be fun to see them have to hand-wave his QB skills if he turns Clausen into a mini-McCown. CUTLER IS BETTER THAN CLAUSEN, EVEN WHEN HE'S NOT.

I can't stand Jimmy Clausen but this would be absolutely hilarious.

This isn't the first time he's been wrong. It's as least 6 times. I forget all of them. The Giraridi thing, a couple of other Cubs things. I think he also said we'd never lift the Embargo with Cuba via a source of his.

But Big Fan is right. This is different. The others didn't go national and this is the NFL a Bears story. So people care. Millions of people read Berntein's story. He'll catch hell. And already has cuz the legit reporters know it's bullshit.

The other times when Bernstein was wrong, he didn't even address it. Just moved onto the next wrong one. That's how he rolls. Defiant and insulated in the Bernstein bunker that he created at the Score.

Drinky finally said, "I want a piece of this game." So he decided to do a bullshit Cutler story. Why?

Drinky: Cuz it's fun!!!!! Woooo hoooo, mother fuckers!!!!!

Beardown: Oy.

Someone posted that he said several times yesterday that Terry deserves the credit for this because he said it first, but people picked it up from Dan's Twitter account thinking it originated with him.

In addition to protecting himself by using words like "likely", he's already started to shift attribution to the doddering old fool just in case Trestman is not fired.

Florio put it on his PFT twitter account. He has close to a million followers. Look at Bernstein's twitter page. That tweet was retweeted over one thousand times. A lot of that was by NFL reporters with hundreds of thousands of followers, if not millions. CBS and Yahoo had it on their web sites. It was trending on facebook. Score update guys were reporting it on every update the last 2 days.

Yes. Millions of people saw or heard Bernstein's report.

As I recall, it was Dan who said it first, then Terry did his usual parrot job..."my guy said the same thing".

Yeah.

You ever notice how all of his stories are similar. With the roof tops it's people in a room. The McCaskeys are in a room. Bulls brass is in a room. Always one voice is louder.

His made up source always tells him that a bunch of people are in a room. So that made up source is always in the room. Reporting to Bernstein as it's happening. "Wait, Dan, someone just got loud right now."

I believe your recollection may well be accurate.

These are indeed strange times ... signs and wonders ...

The topic is not goiing to vanish, but Danny is really trying to setup a cushion in case of a fall!

I think even Terry might let Danny dangle on this one.

Spiegel seems to be the only one that mocks Bernstein over his false reporting. Did it with Giraridi. I read here he's been doing it over this one. Not hard. It's subtle. Certainly won't go hard at him to his face during tranny. Still, it's something to discredit him on his very station.

Nobody else over there will do it. I know. They're all scared of him. But do you think that they at least discuss it among themselves. Maybe at a bar. Wouldn't you think that if you got a few drinks in Mitch, that even he'd say, "Hell yeah, I know Bernstein is full of shit."

Zack, for one, probably tells all of the reporters at Halas Hall that Bernstein makes this shit up I would think. Cuz you can tell when Zack is on the air with Bernstein that he absolutely hates Dan.

You can? I find it hard to read how ZZ feels about anyone since he is usually spinning any Bears news into a positive.

Oh yeah. Bernstein belittles Zack's stupid Bears thoughts and/or stats he gives that have no context. Been doing it for years. Zack is one of those proud guys that actually thinks he's important and a good reporter. Bernstein deflates that enormous ego of his on a regular basis.

So, yes, Zack hates Bernstein.
