Dude this is the real point. Nas is SPOT ON here. Trestman benched the guy the GM paid all those dollars to (the dollars that's really bugging everyone today) to prove one and only 1 point.... that JAY IS THE PROBLEM. That Trestman's system works without Jay.
You could say it did show Jay is the problem even if Clausen isn't the answer. Clausen, by your own admission, is absolutely horrible, and yet they almost beat a team that is currently the #2 seed in the conference.

This would be true if the offense was responsible. Detroit tried to give the game away and the Bears offense didn't take advantage. That's no knock on #8 but it is an indictment of Trestman. Any team should be able to win a game if they get a performance like we saw from the Bears defense and ST.

2 red zone interceptions
Muffed punt recovery at the 5
5 sacks
Blocked FG
Great acting job leading to a roughing the kicker
Forcing more punts than they have in the past month
We can stick to reality. The Bears almost beat the division leading Lions with Jimmy Clausen, who by all prior evidence is a horrible quarterback.

If X, Y, and Z don't happen the Bears get blown out, and if A, B, and C happen the Bears win. None of it changes what actually happened.

What I posted is what actually happened.

And what happened was a loss with a less than mediocre two scoring drive performance by a career backup who should not start any NFL game except in dire emergency.

Exactly.

The Bears almost won a game with a terrible quarterback. If a terrible quarterback can almost beat the division leaders then what does that say about the starter?

What actually happened was a QB who hasn't started an NFL game in 4 YEARS, ran the Bears offense as well as Jay did. This wasn't like Jonathan Quinn or Craig Krenzel bad. Aikman was impressed. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I believe Troy Aikman knows a little bit about the QB position.

The guy wearing #8 has won less than 10% of the games he's started and 5% of the games he's played in. We should all be asking why he is our backup QB.

He didn't have a choice. He had to stick to the script. They were impressed with the way he walked to the huddle and took the snap.

OK, I went back and looked at the relevant thread, and you are more or less correct about this, Dr. You didn't think either would be a very good coach, but you had a slight preference for Arians over Trestman.

Still not very good thoughts! :P

And didnt throw multiple interceptions. And hit receivers in stride (as opposed to the receiver having to catch the ball behind their heads) and checked out of bad play calls and into good ones

They still had 250 yards of offense and 14 points. That's ignoring all the gifts they were given. If that's the offensive production we get from a desperate coach they should fire him now.

I was a long time Cutler apologist but once the Bears shored up the line and improved the talent of the skills position players it became difficult to make any more excuses for him. They have gone through a number of coordinators and yet he still can't get it together. It is painfully obvious that he is the problem. He makes far too many mistakes.

Given that you thought that Arians was only "probably" a better hire than Trestman, I'd say Arians is doing quite a bit better than you anticipated. :P

I am not sure how anyone could say that Trestman is not the problem.

Yes Cutler is a huge problem for the offense.

But let's not forget how bad the D and Spec teams have been this year.

Trestman is a huge problem as well.

Both Trestman and Cutler deserve to be gone next year.

The thing is that we know Trestman is gone and everyone agrees.

Many want Jay back next year.

I've seen almost nobody apologizing for Jay's performance this year in the past 24 hours.

Couple posts of guys saying they should take one more shot with him next year, maybe 2 or 3 of those.

And then Darkside, who's kind of shotgunning a lot of thoughts out there. I haven't been able to process all his football information just yet. I need to set aside a few hours this evening and go through it again.

It's actually a terrible analogy. Cutler holds no power or control over me financially, physically, emotionally.......which are some the reasons why abused women stay with their abusers, no?
