Listening on Christmas eve and heard a caller say he had two points and to let him get through them before Bernsy attacked; Bernsey's response was that I don't have to, I'm not going to - I pushed the button after that..

But it made me think: what does Señor Dad tell his kids on how to treat people? If you've met Bernsy's father, he is a polite and easy going fellow. The radio bernstein can't hide behind the microphone with his kids - how does he tell them to treat people with respect on one hand, and butt fuck them in his other? Unless, of course, Highland Park Dan and his Lincoln park wife just look down on everyone - and are raising their kids to do the same.

He treats people like crap. I used think it is an act, but I am pretty sure he is just a pseudo intellectual jerk. He could be such a fun listen. He would rather be a know it all that talks down to folks. Like Terry, just a waste of talent at this point. Sports are supposed to be fun. Somewhere along the line he forgot that.

Caller: How many games will the Bears win this year?
Afternoon show: How would we know?

Every other sports fan in Chicago has an opinion on the matter. But the guys paid to have an opinion, will not answer a simple question like that. Click.

Dan gets shitty and indignant whenever a caller asks him to do anything. "No, I don't have to do anything, it's my show" would be funny, like, every once in a while, but multiple times in the span of an hour is soul-crushing.

If you ever listened to Bernsteins sunday morning show it was a good show.

The tought guy radio act is one of the worst listens anywhere. Not just Dan. Leary seemed to go that way too. I know its hard to believe leary going tough guy, but it happened.

But when it all comes down to the yelling, hanging up, et...it's an act and thats why I turn his show off so much these days. Havenrt even heard him in over a week. Just because I dont want to turn on a station of hearing some smarmy kid who might have more info than others tell Joe at the canning factory his thought ar stupid...call after call after call...until some ALS member texts in.

Thank you for understanding sports talk radio better than anyone at WSCR.

They understand it, they just think this is how it should be done. Every kid that works there is being taught the Bernstein method, he beleives you should get 50% of the people to hate you and 50% to like you, because of the claim that those who dislike you listen more. I just dont agree with that. I think it is they might listen more if they disagree with your view on a topic, which is different from not liking you.

Its something that M&H dont do and they are the stations most popular show in numbers. Yes, you can say its because they have the morning show, but I dont think BB had the morning slot they would do those numbers.

I still listen until I can't take it anymore, which usually coincides with them taking calls. I have no idea why he even does it. He has no interest in listening to what anyone has to say. He just looks for the first opportunity to be a pedantic little dick. He doesn't even usually understand what the are trying to say. He doesn't even try.

At work yesterday and heard it would be Dan solo. Usually are somewhat tolerable shows. Third caller in and he started yeling. Click.

I think it is Bernstein just being himself. It probably would be counterproductive for a radio novice to try to emulate his radio manner. In the case of Bernstein, it makes a difference when you've been with the station since 1995 and built some loyalty with listeners.

Dan is a tough guy over the radio that would literally shit himself if he was confronted by any of his callers in person.

Thats why he had a period of time of security walking him to his car.

When you see him in person at an event he tries to keep a very low profile. Spiegs will even mention his name on monster speakers that everyone can hear and he acts as if he doesnt hear it. Seen it a few times. He is 15 feet away from the speakers.

I understand from Mitch's perpspective that they have ratings. I think much of that is because of the time slot and just familarity, that doesnt mean it is a good show and Mitch only risks ratings loses by changing it up.

HOWEVER, putting Mac in that time slot with....some others....lessens that risk

Yeah, it's only Chicago's Longest-Running Sports Talk Show because everyone's afraid to try anything else.

And yeah, usually Dan's solo shows around the holidays are pretty laid-back affairs, but you guys are right, he was really edgy. It was like the second or third caller with

"Hey, Dan, I want to make two points, please let me get through th--"
"I DON'T HAVE TO LET YOU GET THROUGH ANYTHING. DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO. IT'S MY SHOW. I'LL DO WHATEVER I WANT."

Jesus, dude. Maybe there is something to the theory that he's sweating getting the Trestman thing wrong.

Sports talk in Chicago has been chocolate or vanilla for too long. My sense of amusement and entertainment is them talking in circles, callers who get the obvious reactions, and their ad hominem shows where they start declaring something a fact for a few days and then spend the following days backing away from their position..."we didn't exactly say that"..."our sources were correct at the time"..."it's the ___________, so who really knows what they were thinking (but we're the ones who really know why).

I PTFB more than ever as I grow bored laughing at them. The other station is often a breath of fresh air but a little to predictable and formulaic to hold my attention. Monday will be an eventful listen.

I don't mind Bernstein being Bernstein. He invented it. There is actually some skill at how he pulls it off.

Like Big Fan mentioned, it's all the younger guys that start at the Score and try to be Bernstein. Problem is these guys are "the dumb caller" types. Not the Bernstein types. I know it's fun to do it Bernstein's way. I know they see Bernstein making 500k and figure they'll do it his way and eventually get their own show and 500k. They also do it to gain Bernstein's approval. And out of fear of being called a "meatball". That's why none of them can say they like tailgating or tough guy coaches. Things like that. But it's clear that producers are never gonna get full time shows at the Score.

This just crossed my mind. I've caught Herb and Shep a few times on the weekends. I remember Herb, in that nasally voice of his, asking Herb, "Herb, what the definition of insanity?" To which Herb responded "Doing the exact same thing over and over again and expecting a different result." They they tie that into the Bears management or something. All proud of themselves.

Now, in recent weeks Bernstein has told the world not to say that anymore. So Shep and Herb won't.

See what I mean, though? Herb and Shep are "Score Callers". They're not "Bernsteins".

Just an observance...from an old fool ( that many of you think I am :( ) I listen to Dan when he 1st started, loved him. Like him when he's teamed with others ( Holmes not included) to deal with Terry every day has turned him into a megalomaniac. He knows Boers is pure bullshit and he has been carrying his sorry ass for at least 7 years!

False. Howard Stern was yelling at his listeners decades ago.

True. Stern did invent the shock jock. Everybody ripped it off of him.

I guess I'm just saying Bernstein was the first to bring it to Chicago sports radio.

Dahl invented it, and Stern perfected it.

I'll just give this example once again. Though it's not the only one with Larry and Bernstein.

Larry was setting up to say he hates Pittsburgh. You could tell. Have to hear it to know what I'm saying. Bernstein cut him off to say "I love Pittsburgh". At which Larry said "Me too!!!!"

It's so damn weird at the Score. Bernstein just has that station controlled to repeat his tone, messages and agendas. Be it out of fear, seeking approval from him, copycatting him cuz they think that's the way to fame and fortune, or all of the above.

I'm not exaggerating. That's what the Score is.

This was more accurate. Dahl was never really a "yeller" at his callers. Everyone forgets where Stern was working after Dahl left Detroit and started in Chicago.

I wasn't insinuating that Dahl yelled at his listeners, just that he did the "shock jock" routine before Stern. Stern can deny it all he wants, but the the timelines of their careers tell another story.

Patrick is the biggest threat to Bernsie. He does not need the money or the job and has the experience/strength to tell him he is full of shit. And he does it in a nice way.

Bernsie is a failure. He was supposed to be Walter Kronkite and ended up Jerry Lewis.

The dated references were for jimmypasta, youre welcome.

I was checking out Jurko and Carm last week for a few minutes. They can't make personal attacks. That's what Jurko said. Said that's what his bosses told them. Meaning they can't call people stupid, fat, or ugly. That sort of thing.

So my point is that the Bernstein clones are limiting their chances in this city at least.

Cuz I'm sure the bosses over at ESPN 1000 are semi aware of the backups at the Score. They call people, on average, stupid fat or ugly at least 3 times per hour.

B&B probably average 5 an hour between them.
