I didn't hear Mac pound his chest this rating period so I can only assume things we not good but WSCR slipped a bit and MVP stayed the same. The Score still was ahead of MVP in the ratings.

How did you do Mac? Did you catch up to B&B? How were all of your other day parts compared to the Score?

Feder doesn't break down the 2 sports stations like he once did. Fill us in please.

What do you think about this new system for measuring radio listeners?

he mentioned a little something about it the other day. MJH beat BB in this ratings book, mike and mike were #1 for mornings, and from the sounds of things silvy and waddle are steadily improving

Congrats, my prediction was on then that ESPNs new lineup had finally turned the corner and was ready to beat SCR finally. Good to know North got beat again. Ratings were flawed for this period.

I will say that I have been tuning into WMVP a little more than the Score over the past few months and it's more of a comfort thing with me and I like Silverman and Waddle a bit more than the Score show in that time slot.

I tune into Mike North on Monday's for my Bears fix but he's all over the map most times but MJH has done a nice job covering the Bears woes over the first 6 games.

I find it odd that the 2 sports stations seem to be in the bottom of the Chicago rankings when it comes to the radio stations and with the T.V. numbers off the charts for baseball , football and basketball in the City of Chicago you would think that would equate to better sports radio numbers.

Chicago is a top 5 sports city and I find it hard to believe that the ratings are accurate when it comes to sports radio.

Pending on your view points... the sports stations won't ever be near the top, in my opinon. They go after a nichie audience. As opposed to WGN or WLS, it depends if you think their audience is niche or not.

A Les Grobstein (dating from a grobber.com blog post in 2005'ish) I believe would have to think the ratings here are pathetic now for the sports stations. i did a project about sports radio a few years ago for a media class, and i remember les had something about that in one of his entries. As opposed, an ESPN 1000 employee at the time, telling me the ratings aren't that big of a deal due to the niche factor.

My personal opinion... Les might be too hard on the stations. THey should / could be higher but they won't be near the top... and the former ESPN 1000 employee, dismissed the ratings issue, wrongfully.

Sports radio ratings SELDOM are impressive with an all-audience baromoter. Not one of us opposes that or challenges it. We aim for the adult male demo. Period.

ESPN outrated the Score in adult men. M&M gave Northy a pretty good beat down.... Silvy & Waddle beat North/Mully&Hanley in the 9-noon... we beat B&B. Among adult men, MJH was third in the market (3-6), outrated only by WOJO and Dahl.

I'll live with it. We rallied strong in September after bad trends for July and August (hmmmm.... wonder why) and stopped the bleeding after losing the spring book. We've won 14 of the last 15 books vs. The Score. I'll take it. 14-1 ain't bad.

Nice going Mac. ..and ESPN in general. Put a shaving cream pie in the face of the backpack toting Carrot Dangler - and then twist it around a bit for me.

I couldn't believe how bad Silvaddle got pasted the last ratings book.

ESPN is a much more enjoyable listening experience with those guys in the mix.

Congrats to you guys Mackey but if your beating them heads up from 6 am to 6pm how are you behind as a station 1.9 to 1.3.? I don't get it.

Could be based on overall demographics. Score has a strong presense in the Caller Anne, Grandma Trivia, and 12 year old punk demos.

Thats why they pimp the heart test ads for the former and snipjob clinics for the latter.

Now shoot for the 15-1 mark, the same mark owned by a certain football team from a certain year 1985 my friend.

The funny thing about the ratings, is what happened that made them lose that 1 ratings book, Mac was suspended, no suspension and they get back to winning, think that means something, because the truth is when Mac retires, ESPN Radio 1000 in Chicago will be over.

By the time Mac 'retires', terrestrial radio will go the way of the Edsel. Unless you want to listen to commercials interlaced with politically correct drive.

Believe it or not, these most recent ratings reflect the quarter in which Mac was suspended. So in reality MJH did better with Mac out. I don't know about you guys, but I'm thinking Carmen would make a good full-time replacement.

Joking aside, all these ratings are pretty much bull. You guys would be amazed about the sample size for the demographics. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to mention that (I might be Jerry Maguireing myself). But it's the truth.

It's an incredibly flawed system. Obviously we'll take the ratings and bonuses and everything else. But I'm going to be interested to see the numbers next year.

In 2008 Arbitron is going to be using people meters instead of diaries. Ratings will be made up from a much larger and more accurate sample size. I have no idea what to expect for the sports radio stations.

Except that I know MJH will be as good as ever...obviously.

you got that right rockmore its profits over programming and all about acquisition, branding, synergy and rearranging the financial deck chairs on the Terresticle Titanic known as 'free radio'.

the powers to be in the ESPN corporate board room have milked the radio cash cow bone dry. but they're no different than CBS Radio, Citadel, Clear Channel, Entercom or all of the other radio conglumerates

Ted Cox chimes in today: http://www.dailyherald.com/column/?id=59802

Overall WSCR 670-AM dipped from a 1.9 share in the spring to a 1.6, while WMVP 1000-AM remained level at 1.3

That said, WMVP did better holding up in the demographic of men age 25-54 both stations aim for. In so-called radio prime time from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., WMVP was sixth in the market with a 3.2 share, just ahead of the Score at 3.1. But in drive time WMVP dominated, with Mac's afternoon show doing a third-place 4.2 from 3-6 p.m. to Boers & Bernsy's 2.9, although they were tied at 3.0 from 2-6 p.m. in men 18 and older.

In mornings, it was even more one-sided, with Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic doing at 5.0 from 5-9 a.m. in men 25-54, while the Score and Mike North were doing the same 2.9. From 6-10 a.m., North posted a 3.2, up from a year ago, but WMVP did a 5.3.

Morning hosts Tom Waddle and Marc Silverman tied the Score in men 25-54 from 9 a.m. to noon at 3.0. "We did manage to hold listeners over," said WMVP program director Justin Craig. "We've got some good growth here, but there's still a long way to go. … It's getting back in stride again."

North got beat that handily? How can management continue with that show? Surely, CBS Corporate must be looking at the cost for the show versus revenue - and see that it isn't working. Ad buyers look for where the audience is - or at least the cost to reach that audience; so the SCORE may need to adjust what they charge for air time ( trends that don't project well mean lower rates to media buyers).

Not good for Mikey and contract negotiations - since he can't fire/blame anyone else, perhaps his response will be to go back to drinking ( I was popular when I was loaded!)

Nit-wit? I resemble that remark.

My bad for failing to remember that you speak in Caddyshack/SlapShot aka CaddyShot dialect most of time.
