DeCosta not leaving Ravens

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before. Ravens assistant G.M. Eric DeCosta won’t be leaving Baltimore.

According to Albert Breer of NFL Media, DeCosta has informed interested teams that he’s not interested in any G.M. vacancies. DeCosta, who is widely believed to be the in-house choice to succeed Ozzie Newsome when Newsome retires, has never given any indication that he wants to leave the franchise.

But his name continues to emerge in pretty much every hiring cycle, which isn’t a bad things for DeCosta. Especially if his annual renewal of vows with the Ravens results in a sweetening of his package from owner Steve Bisciotti.

One thing I'd worry about even if DeCosta was willing to leave right now is what would he do when Newsome eventually steps down? Seems like the Ravens GM job is his dream job from what I'm reading. He might not be worth grabbing anyway if he's just going to jet as soon as the Ravens spot opens up.

Ah, screw him if he doesn't have the ambition.

We don't need a Riker here.

Unless an NFL team is retarded, he couldn't just leave if the Ravens opened up.

My guess is it's going to be Ballard or Newsome.

If it's Ballard I'm going to say I'm going to do something drastic against my Bears fandom and then not do it.

I'm leaning Ballard also. They love those ex-Bears employees

Read that with Mr. Burns voice in my head and chuckled

@ Conns: yeah it would be retarded, but we are talking about the Bears here so retarded can't be ruled out.

I'd be pissed as hell if it turns out to be Ballard - I'd still give it a shot for 2 seasons maybe tho.

DeCosta is the answer. If the Bears truly wanted to win, they'd give him whatever he wanted to bring him here and be done with it.
Stupid.

If only the Ricketts owned the Bears.

I wonder how many people here ever heard of DeCosta before Emery was canned.

Baltimore as an organization has shown exactly what the Bears need. They don't have Aaron Rodgers or Manning at QB. They have had competitive rosters year after year after year and won Championships in 2000 and 2012. That is what I want running the Bears...never mentioned it before because honestly, I did not think they'd fire Emery.

I would venture to guess that a fair number of posters--and Bears fans more broadly--are familiar with DeCosta and his accomplishments given that he was considered a "hot" candidate to fill a GM vacancy when the Bears decided to go with Emery.
