That would suggests that I am not the only person that believes Josh is better. He hasn't played that way recently. I don't do snapshot evaluations as some do. It is those types of evaluations that led to the love of Lance and the dismissal of Pau. I look at the full body of a person's work and if you compare the two it really isn't a comparison. They also are the same age which eliminates the whole upside portion of the debate. I appreciate Taj for what he is a good bench player. If he starts for you he would be in the bottom 10 pfs in the league.

Taj is a much smarter player who understands his limitations. Neither trait applies to Smith. He was a better defender the minute he walked on the floor. He has worked on his game and steadily improved his offense each season. Despite his athletic advantages, Smith has declined as a player.

With regard to your obsession with starting, it's not just posters in this board that think it - all of the TNT announcers agreed he would be a starter for many teams. Personally I really don't care if he ever starts...still a good and valuable player.

It's really not an obsession I have. Actually I was simply responding to those who keep suggesting he should be a starter. Thankfully Bulls management has never felt that way.

Pistons 4-0 since shedding Smith. All against relatively weak East teams. Kings tomorrow and then they have a back to back with the Spurs-Mavs this week.

Taj lead the entire NBA in 4th quarter minutes last season. Apparently Thibs doesn't understand the importance of starting games. Don't tell Bulls management.

Always remember that Bulls signed Boozer the yr after Taj started seventy games. The Bulls most glaring need was Small Forward. They signed a guy that most people on here believed to be washed up. The Bulls believed they needed to upgrade the position. Their opinion of Taj is really the only one that matters and they have never been sold on Taj. as a Frontline PF. He is a solid backup. I don't believe he has ever avg. 30 min. a game and last yr was his first yr avg double digit points.

Not in this instance. I'm not anti Taj. In his role as a guy off the bench he is cool. Guys were saying that he would start on most teams. He wouldn't I provided the list and there were a few I didn't add that are better in my opinion.
Kirkwood do you believe that it was a mistake for the Bulls to sign Gasol and start him over Taj?

That is where this originated. It didn't originate with Josh Smith. He was a mere pawn. People were outraged that the Bulls would sign Gasol when they already had Taj. Taj was also considered to better than Pau. They have chosen to focus on Josh as a way of obscuring the fact that they believed he was better than Pau. They also stated that he was a top 15 PF. It does not matter if he starts. Kevin McHale was a top 5 pf for most of his career yet he was a sixth man for some of the time. My argument is that Taj is not a top tier PF and the Bulls don't think so either.

15ish sounds about right. That's not top tier. I think signing Gasol was Bulls knowing he can do things Taj can't. Compliment each other nicely.

Still not buying it. They are obviously playing better since the Josh Smith move. No Leonard makes a big difference. They are about to start losing a lot of games. They have played better without Smith. It's undeniable. Josh Smith has also played better without them. He looked a lot better than the ball stopping Taj Gibson last night. Much more versatile. I'm not ready to trust Brandon Jennings are u?

This one is going to be a little tough to argue but I will try it anyway. Spurs are only .500. They are looking like a team that is going to miss the playoffs. Andre Drummond is playing like a beast right now. This is def. not looking good for my Josh Smith argument. They have however beaten teams that are losing to just about everyone right now. 6-0 is 6-0 though.

I wouldn't trust Jennings but they look good. I know Josh Smith can do stupid things on the court but I don't recall hearing he was a cancer in the locker room. Something has clicked for the Pistons since they dumped Smith.

Andre Drummond is playing like an All NBA guy since the move and Jennings is playing like am All Star. Jennings is going to revert to form though. He is a career 39% shooter who has shot 56% since the trade. I have always liked Drummond though. I wanted Cleveland to draft him when they drafted Waiters. I mistakenly thought he was going to be better than Anthony Davis. He may be starting to close that gap now. He is not as skilled as Davis. He is more of a power player but the guy is a once in a generation type of athlete. He has to shoot free throws better and develop a post game but he is beginning to look like he can be a dominant big man.

From a basketball standpoint the signing of Smith was a bad move. He and Greg Monroe play the same position. They tried to say that Smith could play the three. When they realized he couldn't play the three they sat Monroe. It caused him to sulk because he believes he is a starter. Monroe is also a young player trying to sign his first big contract and it's difficult to do that if you're coming off the bench. It's doubly tough to do that if you're coming off the bench for a team that is a perennial loser. It was a move that was destined to fail. It was a move made by a GM who was desperate to save his job.

Didn't Greg Monroe say over the summer he wanted Smith gone if he were to stay/play up to his potential?

I agree that this Pistons team most likely isn't going anywhere. Best move might be to get that 1st rounder they want in a trade for Monroe and dump Jennings for whatever they can get:

http://www.sportsworldreport.com/articl ... adline.htm

then again, Pistons could play spoiler in the playoffs. Keep winning and who knows how far up the Eastern Conference seedings they could climb. But I believe Monroe is a free agent after this season.

Having 2 centers on the court (Monroe / Drummond) has to be tough one-off pull for teams these days in an NBA of swing fours and undersized centers.

Josh Smith celebrated on Espn as we speak. He's getting the obligatory Chris Broussard interview after having a good game. Had a good game last night also.

It's funny how they are spinning that. According to Doug Collins he is supposed to keep Howard in line. Thats ironic.

Detroit is about to go 7-0 with Josh Smith. The battle is lost on the Detroit front. However I will continue the battle as far as Taj is concerned

Watched this game out at the bar last night. Dirk and Rondo both under 30 minutes for the game.
Detroit controlled throughout. Carlisle must've decided it wasn't worth it
to play Dirk/Rondo enough to make a comeback.

DJ Augustin 26 points in 21 minutes. Jennings on the bench at the end of the game in favor of DJ's hot hand.

Vegas didn't buy into the Pistons before this Texas run. Giving +300 on the ML vs the Spurs and then +350 on the Pistons ML vs the Mavs (Detroit on back-to-back, Mavs not). Be interesting to see what the line is Friday for Hawks-Pistons at the Pistons Palace.

Cousin Sal guess the line: Pistons +180 / +4

Before getting injured last night Brandon Jennings was playing like an all star. If he's out for a while it may hurt their playoff chances.

When you can refer to Taj as formerly Arguably a bench player then we can have a discussion.
