Both of them get a rap for being a know-it-all and condescending to the contestants. I'm on the fence -- Alex has all the answers (or questions, if you prefer) yet he still likes to give a "oh no, no" and a "tsk tsk" every once in a while as if the guess the contestant gave was below his level. Dick likes to go up after the final clues are given and give his "better" clues to the top of the pyramid. If the contestant figures it out based on that clue, I guess it makes him look like he is a super smart guy, but that happens what, maybe 15% of the time? Most of the time it just makes the contestant feel more stupid for not being able to figure out the category. I think I'm going to say that Alex is the worst of the two, but they're both bad... give me a Harvey or Rayburn any day.

I don't think Dick Clark was ever condescending on $25,000 Pyramid. I think he understood full well how hard that round was and genuinely wanted to help the contestants. Remember, too, that unlike Jeopardy, your success was contingent on the help of your partner. If Dick Clark was showing anyone up with the clues afterward, it was the celebrities, not the contestants.

Sorry, I just sorta think Pyramid is the greatest game ever and I attribute my love of language to watching the $25,000 and $100,000 versions every day on USA going all the way back to 1990.

Yes, I will give you that... it could be just as much showing up the celebrity. It's kind of a weird moment in a game show because everyone knows the right answer except for the contestant, so even the audience will occasionally shout things out afterward that were "better" clues.

Not the greatest game ever for me, but I do respect it as an all time classic. I was watching today on GSN (off from work) and some of the 80s references were fun -- "That cat that's hanging in all the cars" - "Garfield?"

Donny Osmond was an abomination on the franchise.
